There's nothing like minor-league promotions, and the Potomac Nationals will have an interesting one on April 15 -- the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic.

To commemorate the anniversary, the team will allow women and children into the ballpark first -- a full 15 minutes before the men.

I was thinking maybe they should have specials on icees or a dunk tank -- too soon?

No matter what else they do, I'm sure plenty of people will make "I'm the king of the world" jokes and think they're the first one to do so. They'll be wrong.

The "king of the world" jokes will only spoof the movie, not the actual event of the sinking of the Titanic 100 years ago, so the jokes on them, as lame as the joke is.

Let the person who has never misspelled a word or forgot to spell check an e-mail, document, etc., cast the first hateful reply.

Under Federal Law, this promotion may be illegal.  It appears to violate Anti-Discrimination laws. Laws banning discrination based on sex is why baseball teams eliminated "Ladies Day" promotions.

The Mets, Dodgers & Red Sawx missed out on that marketing gem.  Fenway opened same day, so that rat hole band box should do something, but we all know John Henry isn`t letting anyone in free.

Why was a story written about a team honoring the anniversary of a tragic event like the Titanic sinking and all that the readers can comment on is grammar?  I know it's not professional when a blogger doesn't have proper grammar or spelling and posts to the web.  But all he was trying to do was to spread some info on what one minor league team is doing to honor the anniversary of the event.  I for one was interested in reading this and am looking forward to see what other groups are going to do as the anniversary nears.

I just told my wife about the promotion and now she wants to go. We live about 20 miles from the stadium. I assume they are not playing there on the 14th, the actual date of the sinking. I think they should give avway rolls of lifesavers upon entry to the ballpark.
