Bobby Valentine

By C. Trent Rosecrans

Well, earlier Monday former Red Sox manager Terry Francona said the Red Sox ban on alcohol in the clubhouse was a "PR move." Current Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine didn't give a "PR" or "PC" response.

"Remember," Valentine told reporters, including the Boston Herald's Scott Lauber, "you're getting paid over there for saying stuff. You get paid over here for doing stuff. I've done both."

It should be noted, Francona's done both too -- and has two more rings than Valentine.

Valentine continued -- "How was it PR?" he asked. "It means like 20 teams are looking for PR and that's why they're making good decisions."

Valentine did say he had the same rule in his last big-league managerial job with the Mets.

With ESPN's penchant to overblow everything Red Sox and Francona on its payroll, it's safe to say this won't be the last time Francona is asked about a Boston controversy -- and Valentine will object to whatever is said. Valentine is always entertaining, and with Francona in his new gig and a microscope on both, there should be plenty of fun for onlookers this season.

Piniella lucked out on that ring, he took over a team that was going to be a winner, and didn't mess with it in his first year.  He never got one on his own.

I couldn't stand listening to BV on TV, I can only imagine that in the dugout must be worse.  The Boston media will be swamped this season with all the events that go badly, the breakup of the team over the last few years is rather sad to watch.  The Rays will be smiling all the way to the playoffs.

"Valentine is always entertaining" says you rosecrans. This guy is a major tool. The Groucho Marx glasses thing was not all that funny, It was Bobby V making it about Bobby V. Just like all the hype surrounding this beer ban. Treating a bunch of grown men like kindertgarteners telling them thsy cannot have a beer after a game? It's just Valentine causing a stir getting everyone to look at him. guy is an a$$.

never said valentine wasn't right, but he being who he is had to announce it to the world.  why?  so people know he is the man in charge.  again, little man syndrome. as for francona, he was answering a question which is what he is getting paid to do.  have fun this year!!!

Say what you want, but Francona is the one who is NOT in Boston. Valentine is. Francona is nothing but a milquetoast weenie who let his players run the clubhouse. Valentine is 100% right on this one, and Francona should have kept his mouth shut. There's a new sheriff in Boston, and anyone who doesn't like it, should get the heck out. Clean 'em up or throw 'em out Bobby.

bobby valentine is a horse's ass.  he seriously has the nepolean complex.  i mean come on, he is a glorified sports fan at this stage of his life.  terrible manager.  no rings.  you wanna ban drinking fine, that is a good thing.  bobby being the tool he is, has to announce to the world that he did it.  clap clap clap bobby.  now try to win a world series, I DON'T THINK IT WILL EVER HAPPEN.   he is a fool.  so glad he is in boston and i don't have to hear that pompous ass on t.v. anymore.  hey FRAUD, when you finally win something maybe we will stop laughing at you.

"Bobby Valentine = Buck Showalter = Buddy Bell = Clint Hurdle = Lou Piniella = Jim Tracy = Bud Black = Art Howe = Dusty Baker.  You name the next few.  Manager guys get job after job in MLB even if they fail to win.  Sort of like pitchers."

While I dont disagree with most of this, Piniella did win a ring as manager of the 1990 Reds.
