Bobby Valentine

By C. Trent Rosecrans

Well, earlier Monday former Red Sox manager Terry Francona said the Red Sox ban on alcohol in the clubhouse was a "PR move." Current Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine didn't give a "PR" or "PC" response.

"Remember," Valentine told reporters, including the Boston Herald's Scott Lauber, "you're getting paid over there for saying stuff. You get paid over here for doing stuff. I've done both."

It should be noted, Francona's done both too -- and has two more rings than Valentine.

Valentine continued -- "How was it PR?" he asked. "It means like 20 teams are looking for PR and that's why they're making good decisions."

Valentine did say he had the same rule in his last big-league managerial job with the Mets.

With ESPN's penchant to overblow everything Red Sox and Francona on its payroll, it's safe to say this won't be the last time Francona is asked about a Boston controversy -- and Valentine will object to whatever is said. Valentine is always entertaining, and with Francona in his new gig and a microscope on both, there should be plenty of fun for onlookers this season.

Bobby V. fires back at Terry Francona

With an Opening Day line up that features Cody Ross in right, Ryan Sweeney in left, Aviles at short and no proven starters after the top three I'd say that Bobby V. has more pressing things to worry about than what the talking heads in Bristol are yapping about.  Like he said himself, those guys get paid to talk and ESPN runs 24/7.  And for what it's worth, like Big Papi said, they're getting paid to play baseball and the clubhouse is not a bar, end of story.

Bobby V. fires back at Terry Francona

So... within the article, I read "With ESPN's penchant to overblow everything Red Sox and Francona on its payroll"... and then very little within the article that warrants a byline of "Bobby V. Fires Back at Terry Francona".

So WHO is really guilty of "overblowing" things?  Methinks it's CBSsportline.com.

Francona was terrible in Philly and much better in Boston?  Why?  He had better players in Boston.  That's the bottom line.  The manager can't hit, pitch or field for his players. But, over the last several years the Red Sox became sloppy and lazy, and that was Francona's fault.  As a Sox fan, I'm delighted the Sox have changed horses here.  It HAD to be done. To call Bobby Valentine a "bad" manager is truly idiotic. Bobby Valentine is one of the best managers of the current era.  Have you ever looked at some of the rosters he was given?  No one is a better game manager today. You'll see.
This team will not be giving any games away this year.  You're going to have to beat them.

Bobby V. fires back at Terry Francona

I'm already tired of Bobby Valentine.  Pretty sure the only thing that he could do to win me over is to get the team to start winning games.

If I were the Red Sox president, I would blame Theo more than Francona. He may have lost control of the team, but no manager or group of coaches/motivational speakers could've stopped that freight train. By the end of the year Francona had a slew of injuries and tired arms all over the place. No reinforcements were brought in. That's more bad planning and bad luck, not bad managing.

Gotta love the potshot they took at ESPN as if there's a media outlet in this entire WORLD that doesn't overblow everything just to try to make a story out of something that's not there! I don't think anybody disputes that Francona is a better manager than Valentine, but I do think Valentine is just what the BoSox needed after an obvious lack of discipline last year. Francona totally lost control of that team and that's why he got let go. Not because they thought Valentine was better. Unfortunately, people are going to judge that by if the BoSox make it to the WS and win it or not without giving a second thought as to whether or not they would have done it under Francona.

Bobby V already showing he's anything but a diplomat. Can't help but pick a fight the second someone says anything. Nothing like trying to heal an organization by getting into a schoolyard shouting match with the former, and far superior manager. Letting Francona go was a huge mistake, hiring Bobby V is a disaster.

Bobby V. fires back at Terry Francona

I don't remember Francona feeling the need to respond directly to anything said by the talking heads, including anything Bobby V said when he was a talking head.

Something tells me I'm going to miss that.......eh, who am I kidding? I already do and I can't wait for the Bobby Valentine experiment to end.

Well if this is all that there is talk about in Boston, either things are going really well or we don't know something.  Overall though this would be a known as "fluff" and the media has nothing to say which I find hard to believe.  Ryan Braun seems to an interesting topic as he seems to one of few who have their taped and labeled samples being tampered with.  Too bad Barry Bonds didn't think of this, he could have went and got tested with no issues.
