Bobby V. takes swipes at A-Rod, Jeter

Bobby ValentineBy C. Trent Rosecrans

Somewhere in Bobby Valentine's office, there may be a checklist of people he should insult.

Monday, it was his predecessor with the Red Sox and Tuesday it's his rival, the Yankees. First on the list of Yankees to tweak? Alex Rodriguez, second was Derek Jeter.

When discussing retiring Boston catcher Jason Varitek, Valentine took a swipe at A-Rod. In a list of positives about Varitek, Bobby V. noted "he beat up Alex," referring to the 2004 dustup between the two.

Then, while discussing his team's work on relays and cutoffs, he dared blast Jeter's famous flip in Game 2 of the 2001 American League Division Series against the A's.

"We'll never practice that," Valentine told reporters (via the Boston Herald). "I think [Jeter] was out of position. I think the ball gets [Jeremy Giambi] out if [Jeter] doesn't touch it, personally. That was amazing that he was there. I bet it's more amazing that he said he practiced it. I don't believe it."

Would the ball have gotten there in time without Jeter's help? Looking back on it, it may have been closer than I'd remembered. I'm still not sure it had enough juice to get there on its own.

I'm surprised while he's at it, he doesn't bring up that in the same game where Jeter made his famous diving catch in the stands in 2004, Pokey Reese made a similar, but superior, play earlier int he game. (If you don't remember, Reese's catch was similar, but he went further and made the catch closer to the wall -- he just lacked Jeter's theatrics and his team didn't win that game).

No shame in getting beat by those Yankees ! They where JUICED to the max !!!! Especailly their Ace Clemens and. Boy toy Andy !!

Except they both played in Houston when they were juicing, unlike Canseco and Jim parque with the White Sox, or Tony Mandarich with the Colts for example.  And unless you are a twelve year old girl texting, don't use more than one exclamation point please.

The Red Sox go from 1918 till 2004 before the win the WS. Then Francona guides them to 2 championships in 8 years, so the team dosent meet expections in 2011 and wholesale changes are made in the organization, including the firing of Francona. Wow if this is not an example of what have you done for me lately I don't know what is. I am thinking the Sox could have had a dynasty here but its like lets go another 80 plus years before we win again.

I love how Boston fans enjoy that picture.  What I see is a classless loser with full catchers gear on including mask and helmet going after someone with out a mask and helmet.  Takes a real big man to attach someone without a mask when you have one on.

The fact that Boston people like that picture somes up the classless cheapshot nature of all of New England.

Bobby V. noted "he beat up Alex,"    SERIOUSLY? Varitek - in full gear - WITH HIS FACEMASK STILL ON - decides to mix it up with A-Rod  and Valentine wants to praise this?    Pick a sport - any sport -  when a guy with full face protection decides to fight & does not toss off the face guard - well he looks a bit like a coward.

Whadda pair of pictures, both good for something. The top one is on my desktop, and the small bottom one on my dartboard.  Well, there will be a manager to talk about in beantowne besides Billy Martin now.  Last April is going to look good compared to 2012.

lol jeter was on the grass near SS/2B area when he started running for that awful throw, he wasn't standing out of position next to posda at the plate.  he freaking ran there as the ball was in flight.  he saw what was going to happen and he was on the move asap to try and make a play and picked up the ball and tossed it home.  he was not standing there waiting for it out of postion.

and that ball was dribbling towards posada and it was about 5 feet off line in foul ground.  thats a dumb comment by bobby V meant to get attention.  thats bobby V's style

and nothing for nothing by but being in position to make a play that wins the game, is not being out of position.

tek and a-rod had one of the biggest pussy fights i have ever seen.  no one beat up anyone in that fight.   bobby v is adding fire to the rivalry and i'm cool with that.  i actually like bobby V because of that lol

BoSox Suck - the only things stated were facts. As a fan of neither team it's easier to identify that... too bad you are too narrow minded to figure out on your own. Be objective, not reactive.
