Bobby ValentineBy C. Trent Rosecrans

Somewhere in Bobby Valentine's office, there may be a checklist of people he should insult.

Monday, it was his predecessor with the Red Sox and Tuesday it's his rival, the Yankees. First on the list of Yankees to tweak? Alex Rodriguez, second was Derek Jeter.

When discussing retiring Boston catcher Jason Varitek, Valentine took a swipe at A-Rod. In a list of positives about Varitek, Bobby V. noted "he beat up Alex," referring to the 2004 dustup between the two.

Then, while discussing his team's work on relays and cutoffs, he dared blast Jeter's famous flip in Game 2 of the 2001 American League Division Series against the A's.

"We'll never practice that," Valentine told reporters (via the Boston Herald). "I think [Jeter] was out of position. I think the ball gets [Jeremy Giambi] out if [Jeter] doesn't touch it, personally. That was amazing that he was there. I bet it's more amazing that he said he practiced it. I don't believe it."

Would the ball have gotten there in time without Jeter's help? Looking back on it, it may have been closer than I'd remembered. I'm still not sure it had enough juice to get there on its own.

I'm surprised while he's at it, he doesn't bring up that in the same game where Jeter made his famous diving catch in the stands in 2004, Pokey Reese made a similar, but superior, play earlier int he game. (If you don't remember, Reese's catch was similar, but he went further and made the catch closer to the wall -- he just lacked Jeter's theatrics and his team didn't win that game).

Oh my, "a man's man"? Take a look at the picture above.  Catcher's are always taught to take off their mask first thing.  Yet Varitek left his on when hitting ARod.  That is not a man's man; that is a p u s s.  Couldn't hit, couldn't field.  Whenever people have to say a player "is a great in the locker room", you know he is not great on the field.  Nobody outside of beantown respects Varitek.  Take off the mask, dude!

Watch the actual video of Bobby being asked about Varitek. You can tell he was caught off guard being asked about a player he never managed and knows very little about. He was struggling to find positive stuff to say....about a mediocre player. Listen to the wording; A mans man? Leader of a pitching staff. (Note, he doesn’t say great catcher or even great defensive catcher.) He even qualifies his comment about Varitek's hitting... “A big hitter...when needed.” After that he does take a long pause, but that wasn't for affect, that was Bobby V obviously (desperately) trying to remember something (anything) about Varitek and THAT'S when he brings up the cheap shot Varitek took at A-Rod. For a man who gets paid to think on his feet, he really screwed the pooch, he came off sounding like a stranger being asked to give the eulogy.

Bobby Valintine is a jerk and always has been one. He hasn't managed a game for the Red Sox and he has already used his big mouth to bash the Yankees at least twice. As a coach or manager having a BIG MOUTH really works to help the team. Ask the JETS big REX how having a BIG MOUTH works to help the team....GOOOOOOOO   YANKEES

Why would somebody ask Valentine about a play that happened 11 years ago in a game he didn't even manage?
And if he brought it up, why?

Rosecrans, getting right to the heart of the CBS agenda -- let's see how much Yankees-Bosox crap we can dig up and promote as reporting.

Things will end badly for this jerk and the Sox. I was a Boston fan for years but lost some interest when they brought on richard cranium JD Drew. Now that Valentine is in the fold I have no time for them whatsoever. Die a slow death for Bobby's sake. Who in the hell thought this would be a good hire?
