The Major League Baseball Players Association knows who leaked Ryan Braun's positive drug test to ESPN, but is not considering a lawsuit, executive director Michael Weiner told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

"The union is not," Weiner said when asked if they were considering legal action. "I guess I can't speak for Ryan on that point. That will be their decision. My sense is that what's done is done. I think that's also the best thing for everybody."

The leak came from someone whom the Braun defense team talked to in preparation for its case, the newspaper reported.

Weiner said the union does not believe there is an issue with confidentiality with MLB's drug program.

"Everyone associated with the case is extemely disappointed that it leaked out," Weiner told the newspaper. "I'm certain the leak was specific to this case. It does not threaten the confidentiality of the program and as I've said to players who have asked about that, confidentiality is as important as any aspect of this program.

"The program has a bunch of different goals but confidentiality is critical. If we felt there was any system-wide problem with respect to confidentiality, we really would have a problem. And that's not the case."

There still is no proof that he intentionally or unintentionally took PEDs. I agree that his attorneys found a loophole.

The proof was in the test that his body contained the substance. The seals on the test were reported to be intact which would have contained Braun's initials on them in his handwriting. So as much as he wants to throw the tampering issue out there, it would have been impossible. So how can you say there was no proof?

Don't worry..Braun will have another cocky press conference to throw this person under the bus. Fact is, he had a postive test result, but got off on a technicality. Braun stating that his physical stats did not change, so what. There are PED's that do not change you physical stature. Bonds,Clemens,Sosa, and McGwire were dumb enough to use the ones that did. Palmeiro did not, but got caught. Just like Braun did. Just wait Braun, karma will get you one day. It did the others.

The reason there is strict liability is because it means an athlete cannot use a banned substance and then say "my bad, I took it by accident."
The basic rule of almost all dope testing programs, if not all, is that the athlete is responsible for whatever enters his or her system. And, it essentially works.
Will there be those that actually do make errors? Yes, unfortunately.
But in this respect almost all, if not all, sporting bodies strongly recommend against the use of supplements or medications without first having the paqlyer's team AND the league's governing body's physcians, trainers and specialists check the substance throughly for the possibility of have a banned substance being part of its compositon.
Example: Ephedra is banned by almost all sports these days. Mo Huang(Not sure about spelling) is in Asian allergy medications and in some supplements.  Mo Huang is ephedra.
NFL players as well as pro rugby and soccer players have been banned for using Mo Huang though they may have, or may not have, used it unintentionally. Testers can't split hairs here. Who is to say who is telling the truth or who is lying.

Hey again BronxNYY,

I can’t keep people from hating him. I have no other choice but to support Braun on this. He is our star for a very long time. Time will tell, if he plays his game this year and his tests are clean, this will all be forgotten. Right now, I simply cannot accept that he is a cheater and now people want to call him a liar. I saw a very angry young man in his press conference. For me, he was believable.

There still is no proof that he intentionally or unintentionally took PEDs. I agree that his attorneys found a loophole. But, from what I read about this process, that is the only way to win. This strict liability thing is kind of unfair. The more I learned about the drug-testing program, the less I trust it. There is a lot to this story we will never know.

Braun did give the Media too much to go on in his press conference. As for the “urine collector,” I felt sorry for him for about a day. I don’t think his name should have been disclosed.  I don’t believe he tampered with the sample either. He still shouldn’t have taken the samples home for 2 days. That cast the shadow of doubt. His reputation will be fine. Right now, there are more people, like you, defending him rather than Braun.

I'm sure MLB is happy the leak did not (apparently) come from their side.

Something tells me the untion might not be so willing to turn the other cheek if it had.

The leak is the first domino that started this whole mess.  Even though I'm a Brewers fan, I'm more than a bit skeptical about Braun's overall innocence, but none of this should have ever seen the light of day.  There are rules in place and nothing is supposed to be disclosed (assuming there is an appeal) unless the arbitrator rules against the player.
