The Major League Baseball Players Association knows who leaked Ryan Braun's positive drug test to ESPN, but is not considering a lawsuit, executive director Michael Weiner told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

"The union is not," Weiner said when asked if they were considering legal action. "I guess I can't speak for Ryan on that point. That will be their decision. My sense is that what's done is done. I think that's also the best thing for everybody."

The leak came from someone whom the Braun defense team talked to in preparation for its case, the newspaper reported.

Weiner said the union does not believe there is an issue with confidentiality with MLB's drug program.

"Everyone associated with the case is extemely disappointed that it leaked out," Weiner told the newspaper. "I'm certain the leak was specific to this case. It does not threaten the confidentiality of the program and as I've said to players who have asked about that, confidentiality is as important as any aspect of this program.

"The program has a bunch of different goals but confidentiality is critical. If we felt there was any system-wide problem with respect to confidentiality, we really would have a problem. And that's not the case."

Union knows who leaked news of Ryan Braun test

Mike Lupica nailed it when he said in the NY Sunday Daily News:

"No matter how hard I try in my night-school chemistry classes, for the life of me I still can't figure out a way to not only spike urine samples, but then un-triple-seal that container and re-triple-seal it well enough to fool a lab. It isn't so long now since won his appeal and got his 50-game suspension overturned and what he still hasn't explained - even as he apparently thinks his story should be the one in "Les Miserables" — is how was enough of a scientific genius to do all that.
Spike two samples perfectly."

This is all you need to know about the Braun sitaution.

I said it the other day and I say it now: the smartest thing Braun and his lawyer can do right now is to be quiet and hope this dies down eventaully. He got lucky.
And he better hope Laurenzi lets the issue die, too, and, does not think about suing Braun and/or his attorney.

Ah well, he gets to go free on a technicality. I guess he had to maintain his innocence once it leaked. What is not in dispute is a failed test. Braun will never shed that label, and follows the long list of players who somehow tried to cheat the system. I cannot believe they awarded him the MVP.

<span style="color: #000000;">The first thing, and most important concern. in any urinalysis is chain of custody. If you do not have that chain of custody the whole charge is thrown out. Any idiot, ANY IDIOT,  WITH A LICENSE TO PRACTICE LAW knows this. If you do not have an intact chain of custody then you have just not done your duty, and have no basis to press charges. Braun is free and that is how justice works

Union knows who leaked news of Ryan Braun test

Hey BrpmxNYY, I believe you and I had a bit of an exchange on this topic a couple months ago. I had moved on from this, I thought, but I see no one else has. I find it amazing that someone who is a fan of the most historic franchise in the game is so concerned about us okies and our little team out here in the boonies. This was an appeal in front of an arbitration panel of 3 not a horrifying murder trial.

Yes, I am a gullible, adoring sucker. I’ve watched the kid play, have you? He’s fabulous. And I will never believe it all came from drugs. Excuse me, but haven’t there been a few Yankees accused of this?

Union knows who leaked news of Ryan Braun test

Why is everyone still talking about this? The posts are just repeating what has been said time and time again!

It is clear that people fall into one of three camps - the "Braun is a cheat and a liar" brigade whose minds were made up some time ago, the "Braun's test was so amazingly high that it cannot possibly have been correct, and anyway Braun just isn't the PED type so it must all be a mistake" crowd, and a small band of conspiracy theorists who question why this story was leaked (and who will also question why the guilty party who leaked it is not going to be prosecuted, implying that if this goes to court there is other information that is going to come out that could embarass someone rather a lot.

Are we really going to spend all season watching Braun's stats, and saying he is a proven cheat (performance falls) or still on PEDs (performance improves)?

Time to move on folks.

Rodney, read Kirky's post below, there is a link that explains it. In short, Braun's defense used the same process and clean sample's tested bad, including levels of testosterone that were higher than Brauns.

It is obvious that you HAVE NO IDEA WHATSOEVER what you are talking about.  I always get a laugh out of posters who call people "morons" and "idiotic fools" when it is obvious that the poster is TOTALLY clueless.  Just because someone tested clean a month before and two weeks after does not mean they couldn't have taken a PHD between the tests.  Your arguement that this proves he is clean just proved what limited intelligence you have.

I can't say if he is clean or not but your argument is fatally flawed and you mocking other people when you are likely either the dumbest poster here or are just blindly defending your love interest is quite amusing.

My understanding was that both of Braun's tests were positive.  Which probably means it wasn't a mistake and that the tests were valid.  I have not been following it that closely but are you saying that one of the tests showed negative and one showed positive?  (Both were tests were performed by the same sample.)  I also understand that Braun never challenged the test results but that he got off the hook because the "chain of command" of the samples was compromised.

I am asking questions here so all of you Braun supporters don't jump on me here but which is the truth?  If one sample was positive and one negative, I am all for calling it a testing error and clearing the guy but if both tests on the same sample were dirty and the guy is only claiming the chain of command of the sample was compromised than I have big doubts that Braun was clean.

Either way,  Braun will probably be tagged for life as a cheater by a lot of people and if the leaks came from Braun's own camp and not MLB as the union claims then Braun has only himself to blame for surrounding himself with fools.
