Marvin Harrison Has Gun Confiscated

Police confiscated a 9 mm handgun from former Colts wide receiver Marvin Harrison during a traffic stop Wednesday. Harrison was stopped three blocks from the Philadelphia garage he owns where, you may recall, in 2008, three people were injured in a shooting. Harrison’s name came up in that case, but he was never charged. Police are testing Harrison’s gun to see if it is related to the ’08 shooting.

ESPN the Magazine’s Shaun Assael described Wednesday’s incident:

"The 37-year-old former Pro Bowl receiver was driving the wrong way down the one-way street in a Cadillac Escalade when the patrolman stopped him along with the driver of a second car that was trailing him, the sources said.

According to the law enforcement sources, the patrolman saw Harrison place something that appeared to be a weapon in the seat console of his car. When the officer asked him to step out of the vehicle, Harrison produced a car registration and a permit to carry a weapon, both of which were in order. When he was asked whether he had a weapon, however, he answered no, the sources said.

At that point, the sources added, the officer said that he had probable cause to search the vehicle and found a weapon in the seat console."

Marvin Harrison Has Gun Confiscated

Guru…you and I are on opposite sides of the fence and I doubt we will ever be fighting for the same cause.  I will address your questions.

jonvi- Let me ask you this? If you got pulled over, had a gun in your vehicle and gave a permit to a cop, would you have then told the cop you didn't have a gun? I surely wouldn't! Part of having a permit is that you disclose having one when you are in fact carrying.

You believe the article as written.  I do not.

It is more than plausable that Marvin is hiding "something" at that time

If this gun is the one used in 08, MH is truly a dumb head.  That gun should be at the bottom of the river, incased in cement.  So I fall back on…the policeman's story is fabricated.  But I will allow for MH being this stupid and everything is on the up and up.  If that is the case…I can't fix stupid and MH is about to do some time.

Would you have just leant a "blind eye" to the fact that he offered up his permit then in turn stated that he didn't have a gun?

Again..you believe the article.  I find this of all things so unbelievable…Like you said…why would he do that?  It doesn't strike me as a likely response.

This would make me think that he is probably under the influence also.

Quit reading Agatha Christi novels.  Even though the ariticle made no reference to this, you invent it to make a point.  The police think the same way too.

you are talking about him going down a street that he has more than likely traveled many times! No way in hell am I a cop and not searching that vehicle!

We have all done similar things intentionally.  You make the case he was so blind drunk/drugged as the reason.  I say he intentionally did it because it was the shortest route.  And the penalty for going down a one way street isn't enough for the police…or you.  So lets find something more.  A search is in order.

First off, does it matter if he is wealthy or not?

Not to carry a gun…no.  But the wealthier you are, the reason of protection become obvious…just in bling that he may be wearing alone.

A colts fan?

Dude…I am a SU fan..not a colts fan.  MH attended SU and I have seen him play often.  The homerism has nothing to do with this.  My response comes right from what you read.  Today's police will do what is necessary to get a conviction.  Our constitution was developed for a reason.  It is no longer an applicable document because of those with similar opinions as yours.  For you my friend..it will probably come too late.  But when it happens to you…you will understand just what the constitution was trying to gain for you.

He had no right to hide a firearm(which could have cost him his own life)

I cannot help you with this.  You obviously live in a state where guns are only in the hands of criminals and the police.  Your gun laws have made nothing safe.  It is just as dangerous today as ever.  Some will say worse.  Gun laws have made Americans stupid and Americans are starting to make statements similar to yours.  A loaded gun is always safe until in the hands of an idiot.  It isn't the gun that is dangerous.  It is the idiot that is dangerous.  A person who cannot carry a loaded gun safely, cannot drive a car safely or many other routine acts in life.

In the state of Florida…Everyone is allowed to carry a concealed weapon…and if someone threatens you in any way….you have the God given right to protect yourself.  If a person attacks you with a knife and you shoot them with a gun….You are considered a good citizen.  Good for the state of Florida who is changing to correct decades of stupidity.  Many other states have already or are moving that direction as well.

And the right of protecting yourself comes from God/Nature…just the fact you were born gives you a right to use whatever means you have to protect yourself and keep that protection with you at all times.  The denial of this God given right has been taken away by man.  So all of you wondering where God came into this.  I was born.  That is all that is needed.

I was going to try and provide a legitimate argument to your thought process, but after reading this I see you don't have one.  But I'll try to reason with you anyways.

I never said anything about not being able to carry a gun.  Our nation was built on the right to bear arms and the law provides for that.  The choice not to carry one is mine and mine alone and I will not force that believe on anyone else.  You want to carry a gun, be my guest it is your right, just as it is mine not too.

I didn't say Marvin was guilty, only that by providing a gun permit and stating that he didn't have a gun gave probable cause for a search.  My point was not to jump to the conclusion that the police are always doing something wrong or racial profiling.  I'm not saying it doesn't happen, but not all police do it.

At least I have faith rather than ignorance to lead me through life.  Good luck and best wishes with yours!

Jonvi,
You sound like a wanna be gangster to me.  Go Vanilla/Eminem Ice!  Yeah, let's cheer on someone to possibly later stalk and kill a man after a previous altercation.  What kind of morality do you live by?

I am inclined to agree about the constitution. Our politicians definitely have flushed it down the toilet.Corruption and Chaos.

Back to football. What is it with these athlete's.Somewhere along the way the NFl,NBA and MLB are going to have to require clauses in these contracts, get in trouble and forfeit big time. The current system is not tough enough. Come on Goodell, get tougher.

@spot-remover

Where does it say the officer was white? Or are you just assuming that as well?

This comment is for goodoleUWdays.
... calling him "boy" is one of those latent racist ticks that our society is filled with... I am really getting tired of people commandeering certain words out of the English language and declaring them "Racist". People need to quit looking for and/or inventing racist theories.

Before that you said:
I agree with some of your points, but I really REALLY hope you're not a white guy... So it would only be really REALLY bad if he's white? You mean based on the color of his skin? Now THAT is the definition of racism. Just because "White People" are the target of your hatred doesn't mean you're any less of a racist jerk. Nobody can control what color of skin they're born with.

And lastly, I would like to point out that your name includes the wordsgoodOle .... It reminds me of "Good Ole Boys" which offends me.

I am sure you probably didn't mean to be so insensitive.

Apology Accepted.

Marvin Harrison Has Gun Confiscated

Do you realize that cops are trained to watch the drivers actions from the rear before approaching the vehicle?  They see drivers do things all the time.  Try to ditch a cell phone, try to put on their seat belt at the last second, and obviously he saw Marvin make a motion to get rid of something.  It's not hard to do.  You don't believe a cop that says he saw this, but you believe Marvin Harrison who clearly lied saying there wasn't a gun at all?  Why did it happen to end up in the exact location the officer says he saw him put it?  Coincidence?

If I have a weapons permit, and a cop asks if I have a gun, I'm saying "Yes I do officer, would you like to see it"?  I understand your argument, but I don't think it applies in this story

Marvin Harrison Has Gun Confiscated

If Marvin Harrison hadn't officially retired from the NFL, he has now.

To all those talking about the police being at fault, you need to get a clue.  You see a car travelling the wrong way down a 1 way street, and see another call following that car down the same street, it looks suspicious.  If when pulling the car over you see the driver making a motion to get rid of something, you have probable cause.

From behind a vehicle, cops constantly see people trying to ditch their cell phone as if they weren't talking on it, put on their seat belt as if they were wearing it, and this is one of those situations.  He lied and got caught.  If any NFL team was looking to sign him, he's just been crossed off their list.  This one is on Marvin, not a corrupt cop.
