Police confiscated a 9 mm handgun from former Colts wide receiver Marvin Harrison during a traffic stop Wednesday. Harrison was stopped three blocks from the Philadelphia garage he owns where, you may recall, in 2008, three people were injured in a shooting. Harrison’s name came up in that case, but he was never charged. Police are testing Harrison’s gun to see if it is related to the ’08 shooting.

ESPN the Magazine’s Shaun Assael described Wednesday’s incident:

"The 37-year-old former Pro Bowl receiver was driving the wrong way down the one-way street in a Cadillac Escalade when the patrolman stopped him along with the driver of a second car that was trailing him, the sources said.

According to the law enforcement sources, the patrolman saw Harrison place something that appeared to be a weapon in the seat console of his car. When the officer asked him to step out of the vehicle, Harrison produced a car registration and a permit to carry a weapon, both of which were in order. When he was asked whether he had a weapon, however, he answered no, the sources said.

At that point, the sources added, the officer said that he had probable cause to search the vehicle and found a weapon in the seat console."

"God didn't give him the right to carry, the police did."

Thank you. To be technical, it was the Constitution, but who's splitting hairs? God had nothing to do with it.

He is dumb enough to be going down the wrong way of a one way street. He is dumb enough to not produce a gun when he gave the officer a permit! So who really knows at this point!

Officer saw something that appeared to be a weapon.I hope that it is not a weapon used in 2008, because appearing to be and being are two different things and thus this weapon probably becomes inadmissible in a trial. Let me know if I am off base about the law (not from Penn).

WOW, that Ben Roethlisberger thing has really got you all worked up. I guess next you will claim that Ray Lewis put the gun there and he should also be suspended.

Marvin Harrison is out of football and not on any team roster. He does not fall under the powers of Godell.

Get over the roethlisberger suspension....It will make you a much nicer poster.

jonvi- Let me ask you this? If you got pulled over, had a gun in your vehicle and gave a permit to a cop, would you have then told the cop you didn't have a gun? I surely wouldn't! Part of having a permit is that you disclose having one when you are in fact carrying. It is more than plausable that Marvin is hiding "something" at that time. If not, why would he had said what he did? He had done everything textbook aecept admitting that he was carrying. That is not onlu suspicious but also VERY stupid!

I believe that police do in fact invent probable causes. In this case I hardly believe that this was done. Another question for you. Would you have just leant a "blind eye" to the fact that he offered up his permit then in turn stated that he didn't have a gun? If you say yes you would look very ignorant. Why would you handover a permit to begin with. You couple that with the fact that he is going down a one way street near a garage that he owns. This would make me think that he is probably under the influence also! Not being ignorant or racist but you are talking about him going down a street that he has more than likely traveled many times! No way in hell am I a cop and not searching that vehicle! Fact of the matter is that the cop didn't really have to say he saw anything at all! The suspicious activity could have been left at just the mere fact of producing a permit without producing the weapon!

As far as your theory of the not seeing through tented windows. Well you can throw that theory out the window! With sunlight shining someone can usually see through windows enough, especially with a trained eye.

You bring up that he is a wealthy person who has the right to protect himself. First off, does it matter if he is wealthy or not? According to the constitution it doesn't matter how much wealth you have. Can be flat broke on the street and have the same amount of rights in that regard. Just because you make millions of dollars shouldn't mean you get equal rights. Your way of thinking is why these guys act like they do. EXACTLY why an NFL player gets off with two dead bodies in the trunk of his car. You may want to re-evaluate your way of thinking. The wealthy feeds off you way of thinking. They think just because they are wealthy and popular that they are free of the law. Basically saying that your way of thinking should be banned from anywhere near a juror stand I guess.

After disecting your post all I can come up with is one simple thing. You are a Colts fan who is clouded by emotions of support for your team. You need to get over all that. There is no perfect team out there with only the best intentions in mind.

Marvin Harrison had no right to travel down a one-way street(which could have killed someone). He had no right to hide a firearm(which could have cost him his own life). He also does not have the right to think he is better than anyone else in todays society(which obviously people like you think he gets a pass on eveerything). What he does have a right to do is continue to play football and be one of the best WR that the game ever has seen(a personal favorite of mine). Obviously when he gets away from football he becomes bored to the point that he makes mistakes. I personally think he could be one heck of a coach if he didn't want to play anylonger. I am willing to bet there are teams that would have him also. That is if he doesn't totally diminish his name before that time.

You say the police have been looking for this gun? How do you know that the gun was used in a crime. MH acted suspicious. If the Gun was legal then he had nothing to worry about. Any chance this is the Gun used in the shooting?

I don't see the story here.  Was he arrested?  No.  Cited?  No.  He had a legal permit to carry.  He lied about not having a weapon.  But, alot of people who grew up in bad areas are taught or learn not to trust the police.  If the gun was used in that shooting.....then there is a story.
