Police confiscated a 9 mm handgun from former Colts wide receiver Marvin Harrison during a traffic stop Wednesday. Harrison was stopped three blocks from the Philadelphia garage he owns where, you may recall, in 2008, three people were injured in a shooting. Harrison’s name came up in that case, but he was never charged. Police are testing Harrison’s gun to see if it is related to the ’08 shooting.

ESPN the Magazine’s Shaun Assael described Wednesday’s incident:

"The 37-year-old former Pro Bowl receiver was driving the wrong way down the one-way street in a Cadillac Escalade when the patrolman stopped him along with the driver of a second car that was trailing him, the sources said.

According to the law enforcement sources, the patrolman saw Harrison place something that appeared to be a weapon in the seat console of his car. When the officer asked him to step out of the vehicle, Harrison produced a car registration and a permit to carry a weapon, both of which were in order. When he was asked whether he had a weapon, however, he answered no, the sources said.

At that point, the sources added, the officer said that he had probable cause to search the vehicle and found a weapon in the seat console."

Hey Good…I can take criticism in that manner.  I appreciate your reply and understand where you come from with it.

To defend my statement…as weak as it is…The boy reference was in support of MH being attacked by what I see as a stretch of law enforcement and the disadvantaged position he is in.

I have never been politically correct…never will be.  Shoot..the other day I was told using the term black and white is now racist.  I can't keep up.

Marvin Harrison Has Gun Confiscated

It was kind of a stupid statement but the does have a point. What was his probable cause? If his license and gun permit were in order then that should have been it....no more. The officer said he thought he saw him put what looked like a gun in his console....even if he did see him and his license was in order nothing else should have came from it. So what Marvin Harrison said "no"....any how it is a mute point now. Marvin better hope that gun wasn't used in 2008 since the Philly PD are now testing to see if it was.

The easiest solution to all this...

Marvin, probably too late now to help, but if you're driving a big flashy car...  Don't drive the wrong way down a one-way street...  Just sayin'.  Whether you're white, black, green, or purple.  And if you really had a gun that was visible while you were doing this, go ahead and pull yourself over as soon as possible.

Or because the cop saw him hide the gun and searched the car because Marvin lied to him?

"Boy" Has Gun Confiscated

I agree with some of your points, but I really REALLY hope you're not a white guy...  It's one of those common, unrecognized racial slips, but calling a successful man of Harrison's age, with all he's accomplished in a distinguished career... calling him "boy" is one of those latent racist ticks that our society is filled with...  (I'm sure you meant nothing by it, but just wanted to point it out...)

You wouldn't call Brett Favre, Joe Jurevicious, Marc Bulger, or someone like that "boy", most likely.

Not trying to stir things up, and I'm sure you'll be a bit defensive about it (again, because I think it was said innocently), but I think it's fair to point it out to you.

I did the same thing once, without realizing it, and a black football player friend of mine in college (who later played for the 49ers) pointed it out to me.  He was gracious about it (and used to it).  But I was embarrassed.

Marvin Harrison Has Gun Confiscated

I was a huge fan of Marvins play while in Indy but he was always kind of stand-offish, aloof, and kind of a dick to fans. Why he would do this is beyond me and why he would be in Philly is even dumber. I know and have hung out with Philly cops and their family. Very good ole boy situation there and would not put any kind of invented situation past them. I wouldn't put anything past Marvin either. If he had anything to do with the previous allegations he deserves anything that comes of this for sticking around his old haunts in Philly with a loaded gun. And if the gun he said he didn't have is traced back to any ballistic evidence they have, he needs to go jail for guilt and just enormous stupidity that defines arrogant delusion.

really?? you are a moron, the probable cause is the fact that the officer saw him put something in the console and that he had a permit. if he would of said yes i have a gun in the car nothing would of even been searched you idiot.
