Why is Terrell Owens Not Signed?

Posted on: June 22, 2010 3:15 pm

At some point, don’t we have to ask why Terrell Owens is still unemployed? Dallasnews.com did today, wondering if the game’s third most prolific receiver in history is a scapegoat.

Yes, Owens is a head case. But most of his drama has come in the second year with a club, not the first. Owens was on his best behavior in Buffalo last season, and that was about as miserable a situation as he could have possibly found himself in. You’d think a team would take a flyer on him with a one-year contract. The Browns, Jaguars, Chargers, Redskins, Bears, Panthers and Rams all need an upgrade at starting wide receiver.

Owens gets it. He recently told NFL Network, "I think why I'm not on a team is not because I can't play. It's based off character issues, and I think that's where the situation lies, and I don't think it's fair. As far as me being able to produce and perform on a football field, I can do that -- that's not a question."

He’s exactly right. Though 36, Owens remains a Top 15 caliber wideout. His unwavering commitment to conditioning has allowed him to preserve the rare speed/strength combination that’s made him special. And though prone to drops, he’s reliable enough fundamentally.
What might be keeping Owens unsigned is a hefty price tag, though he calls the idea that he’s pricing himself out of the market “a rumor”.

Allllright.  My BAD!  You got me.  I stand behind the rest of my commentary though.  I hardly think the world is coming to an end because of my goof.  If I have to TRY to be stupid, it's because it doesn't come as naturally as it does for you.

Why is Terrell Owens Not Signed?

Owens does NOT get it.  His response shows that he thinks it's about his ability to make plays.  The statement also shows that he feels he's treated unfairly because of character issues.  Character issues is why he doesn't have shoe endorsements.  He isn't signed because he doesn't get the fact that he has to be part of a team.  His skills make him one of the best, despite having the infamous label of pass-dropper.  His prima-dona attitude makes him a cancer to his team.  Not just in Dallas, but also in Tampa Bay where Coach Gruden paid him to keep his butt at home rather than infect his team.  How'd it go for him in S.F.?

No, Terrel, the problem isn't how you're treated.  It's how you treat those who want to support you.

I'm from a place in the Bronx where mad skills on the basketball court are common as Mr. Softee in the summer.  Despite the skill pool, successful ballers rarely comes out of there (Georgetown's Fred Brown is the most notable exception) because it takes more than skills to make it.
Well, YOU certainly get it, obviously. That Terrell Owens and his behavior in Tampa Bay under Jon Gruden ...what a jerk!

Embarassed

Too bad Owens never played for Tampa Bay.

How can anyone be so clueless? You follow football but can't even keep Terrell Owens apart from Keyshawn Johnson? And yet you have the gall to post an authoritative anti-Terrell Owens comment. Talk about obnoxious .

What is the world coming to? It's almost like you'd have to TRY to be this stupid.

Why is Terrell Owens Not Signed?

Maybe because he has an attitude problem, is getting old, & is worth significantly less that what he will accept

Why is Terrell Owens Not Signed?

TO not being signed at this stage in the NFL season is an absurdity which I cannot presume to understand.  I know that TO has his difficult side but he also has a brilliant side.  To those who claim his skills have erroded I say, "You are full of it."  Not a single person making that claim has examined TO nor been there on the sidelines to evaluate his skills.  There has to be an owner out there somewhere who will see the light and sign TO.  They would look brilliant by season's end.

There is little doubt that TO is a great, yes great football player.  The man has no human skills though.  Common sense is lacking, good judgement off the field is missing, and let's face it, tha guy is just an ass-clown.  I feel sorry for him.  I wish a coach like Dick Vermeil could pick him up and work with him.  I do not want to get started on Lawrence Phillips, that was a waste from th get-go.  TO is different, there is talent and possibility there still.  I would like to see him to to a team such as the Rams this year, that would help usher in the Sam Bradford era with a bang!  Just dreaming out loud.

Why is Terrell Owens Not Signed?

Sorry for the confusion, I was replying to the Skins' fan on the first page that had the 6 point list of why to get him.

Why is Terrell Owens Not Signed?

As another lifelong Skins fan, I agree.  He's better than Santana Moss (who is NOT a number 1 receiver anyways), and even though he drops the ball a ton he still commands the opposing team's defense to roll a safety his way.  Snyder has a lot of money that he's itching to spend, and in a capless year he can spend 4 mil to see if TO and McNabb can hook up for 6 or 7 TDs.  Our receiving corps is atrocious and McNabb's only going to be good for the next 2-3 seasons, there aren't many answers out there.  We couldn't spend the picks to get Marshall since we needed O-linemen in the draft and had already spent picks on McNabb, so the best solution left to bolster the receiving corps is Owens.
