Giants third-round pick Chad Jones has been receiving bright news – or as bright as news as possible, given the circumstances – from doctors about his potential recovery from the severe leg injury he suffered in a car accident last week. According to Greg Logan of Newsday, Jones’s agent, Rocky Arcenaux, told the Gannett Louisiana News Service that his client is encouraged about possibly playing in 2011.
Jones, however, may have to play a different sport. If football proves too taxing, the LSU star could pursue a baseball career. Jones, an outfielder and relief pitcher in college, was drafted in the 50th round by the Milwaukee Brewers.
Jones’s father said doctors avoided having to amputate his son’s left foot because they restored blood flow to the foot and ankle area. Jones underwent surgery for a broken left tibia and fibula. According to the Giants, Jones is being transferred to a New York hospital today.
