Haynesworth has lost 32 pounds

Because there was so much commotion over Albert Haynesworth skipping the Redskins’ mandatory minicamp in June, people forget that earlier in the offseason, Haynesworth irked Mike Shanahan by choosing to work out on his own, rather than with the team. Part of Haynesworth’s reasoning was that he feels he gains more of a competitive edge working with his own trainer. Now, this from Fredericksburg.comA. Haynesworth (US Presswire):

Tripp Smith, Haynesworth's personal trainer, said in a phone interview yesterday that Haynesworth has lost 32 pounds since they began their workout regimen on April 5. He said that Haynesworth is committed to getting in top physical shape--albeit away from Redskins Park--for the start of training camp on July 29.

Haynesworth is listed at 350 pounds, but he reportedly weighed 362 in April. Losing weight is great, but likely, the Redskins would rather be monitoring the situation themselves. If Haynesworth is to indeed be the nose tackle in the new 3-4, you don’t want him slimming too far down.

Fat Albert wants to play any position but Nose tackle in a 3-4 scheme...........He is shooting for d-end this season if he can get quick enough.....And if not this season with this team, it will be with another team in either scheme(4-3 or 3-4)....This is the reason for the weight loss.......He is serious about rushing the passer........."Hey Hey Hey!"......

hey Dr. Bill

While it may not be the best for you, many men live and work at 400 pounds.

As long as it is not all fat, the healthy heart can down just fine. Blood fats are more dangerous than weight.

yeah, 330 is good... i wouldnt be surprised if, not this year than next, that he'll drop more weight and try to go to DE... try nose for a year, not do good, then go to end, do ok, career over...

330 is actually a pretty solid weight for a nose tackle playing in a 3-4 system, especially if you want to preserve the quickness that is part of what has made Albert Hayneworth a dominant player at times in the past. He might bulk up to about 335-340, but adding that much weight on wouldn't be too much of a problem.

While Haynesworth may not want to play the nose, he needs to stop being a big baby and do what's best for the team. In this case, Mike Shanahan thinks that's going to a 3-4. And, as a general rule, I'll go with what Shanahan thinks is best for a team over what a player who is concerned with padding his stats thinks. He's concerned his stats will dip, but any GM or head coach worth his salt knows that you don't judge a nose tackle's stats the same way you do a 4-3 DT.

If he was up at 360 before and then lost 30, then he is still about 330lbs. Thats about where you want to be for a NT. Now, if he gets down closer to 300 or 310 then yeah, he is probably trying to avoid playing NT.

Albert Haynesworth didn't lose 32 pounds to impress anybody.

Albert knows he's not getting traded. He doesn't want to play NT in a 3-4 because he doesn't want to sacrifice stats. Well, if he slims down enough, he can possibly move out to one of the ends and still get 7-10 sacks a year. 362 minus 32 equals 330 lbs, just slighty low for a NT in a 3-4. Shanahan's not going to use a skinny guy in the middle. Albert is smarter than we think (or at least his handlers are).

When the time comes, IF fat al is still playing at a high level, teams employing the 3-4 will know the value of a top NT and will pay him top dollar to be a NT. He needs to just shut up and play. $100 million, he should scrub toilets if they ask him to.
