Vikings offer Favre even more money

Posted on: August 4, 2010 9:57 am

We’ll go ahead and get this Brett Favre update out of the way, as well. Which I’m sure will be just fine with you.

According to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune , the Vikings have put together a compensation package that would give Favre $20 million to play this season – a significant raise from the $13 million he already was scheduled to make. Apparently, $16 million would be guaranteed and the other $4 million would come in the form of incentives.

Though Minnesota coach Brad Childress pled ignorance during his Tuesday news conference, Judd Zulgad writes “Vikings tight end Visanthe Shiancoe admitted Favre had ‘told a couple of guys on the team that he was going to retire,’ but the Biloxi (Miss.) Sun Herald reported an unnamed person close to Favre's family said he hadn't made a decision whether to play a second season with the Vikings.”

I know this is easy to say from the outside, but at some point, shouldn’t the Vikings say, “Screw it. Enough is enough. Thirteen million dollars is plenty. If you’re going to continue to jerk us around, forget it. We’ll go with Tarvaris Jackson. You stay retired, Brett.”

OK, that won’t happen, but would anybody blame Minnesota if it took that tact?

Vikings offer Favre even more money

Well let me see here knumbnuts. If I turn it on ESPN and that is all that is on then that is all I see before I change the channel. You are an IDIOT!!!!!!!!!! So I have to NOT watch one of my favorite show because they are unoriginal and all they do is make something out of nothing to fill airtime. So shut the hell up and come up with your own thoughts. MORON.

Apparently, if you have a sprained ankle it will heal if you wrap money around it.

Vikings offer Favre even more money

I think the fact that Favre waits until training camp (or the end of training camp) to "make his decision" is the worst part of all of his drama. Be a man and allow your employers to plan for whatever you decide! If you want to play, then lay already. Maybe this offseason it is injuries, but the last four-five years have not all been about injuries. Let's say favre decided in February that he would retire. That allows the Vikings plenty of time to plan for 2010. Maybe they could have picked up Donovan McNabb or made another trade. The point is, make a damn decision and stick to it. At this point it seems pretty obvious he just doesn't want to go through training camp AND he craves the attention.

Vikings offer Favre even more money

The Viking brass is so stupid.  A story comes out that he is retiring (did anyone actually believe Lord Brent was retiring???) and the managment pukes on itself and as a final effort offer him more money.  Championship teams are built by the front office.  This is why the Vikings like the Cubs in baseball will never win a championship.

33, 7.  Lost because his team blew it for him and because of bs.  Obviously he can still play.  Idiot.  Do you think your qb would go back in the game after that cheap ass high/low?  No.  Stop hating because of the media's absurd opinions.

Vikings offer Favre even more money

All you saying the vikings are so desperate offering him more money.  DUH!  Is it a bad thing to be desperate when you've never won a superbowl.  You'd be the exact same way if you never won a superbowl and had one last real shot before falling off the map for another prolonged period of time.  But you have won a superbowl, so you don't know what it's like, so don't pretend like you wouldn't be desperate and that it's a bad thing.

Josh.... 9 years into your career and seriously this is the best you have?

I know this is easy to say from the outside, but at some point, shouldn’t the Vikings say, “Screw it. Enough is enough. Thirteen million dollars is plenty. If you’re going to continue to jerk us around, forget it. We’ll go with . You stay retired, Brett.”

Why would they say that? What do they gain from that? They know if Brett doesn't come back they have Tarvaris. That doesn't mean they have to throw Brett away, Tarvaris isn't going anywhere. Why try to force Brett's hand when it doesn't hurt them one single bit (pretty obvious from last year's performance) to wait and see what Brett wants to do.

What about your article was honestly worth reading? Seriously, should I recommend this to friends or somethings? The entire article is like a conversation at the break table at the factory I work at. And this is your career? Good God man...how dissapointing.

Vikings offer Favre even more money

The Vikings know that their chances are best with Favre as their QB to win a Superbowl. And Jackson with a 10-6 record will get them in the playoffs but it will have them playing on the road the entire playoffs. With Favre, they will probably get the number 1 seed like they should have gotten if it weren't for the Saints, and they proved home-field advantage is important

Vikings offer Favre even more money

If they offer more money they are stooges! Favre in under contract, if he's healthy and wants to play he needs to play for what he is signed for.  Money does not solve the issue Favre is bringing up, his health. He is playing the Vikes right now. In or out? What's going to be. I hope the Vikes don't cave in to the very talented but very selfish #4.
