Vikings offer Favre even more money

We’ll go ahead and get this Brett Favre update out of the way, as well. Which I’m sure will be just fine with you.

According to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune , the Vikings have put together a compensation package that would give Favre $20 million to play this season – a significant raise from the $13 million he already was scheduled to make. Apparently, $16 million would be guaranteed and the other $4 million would come in the form of incentives.

Though Minnesota coach Brad Childress pled ignorance during his Tuesday news conference, Judd Zulgad writes “Vikings tight end Visanthe Shiancoe admitted Favre had ‘told a couple of guys on the team that he was going to retire,’ but the Biloxi (Miss.) Sun Herald reported an unnamed person close to Favre's family said he hadn't made a decision whether to play a second season with the Vikings.”

I know this is easy to say from the outside, but at some point, shouldn’t the Vikings say, “Screw it. Enough is enough. Thirteen million dollars is plenty. If you’re going to continue to jerk us around, forget it. We’ll go with Tarvaris Jackson. You stay retired, Brett.”

OK, that won’t happen, but would anybody blame Minnesota if it took that tact?

Vikings offer Favre even more money

This bogus rumor came from the Minneapolis Star tribune, which is nothing more than a "rag."  The sports writers for this newspaper are only qualified to write about Pop Warner Leagues and NOTHING more!!!  I know!!!  I live in Minnesota.

Vikings offer Favre even more money

The Vikings are offering more money because they're about as classless as Farve. They know they will suck this year without Mr. Hollywood. If he does come back I hope he gets knocked on his ass and then maybe this yearly drama will come to an end.

Question -- how do they give him another $7million and which teammate gets cut to cover the cost?  I know its an uncapped year, but isn't their still a rule limiting the amount of the raise in the uncapped year?  Anybody know the amount -- I thought it was like 20%?
It's not really a 7 million dollar raise, it's a 3 million dollar raise with the other 4 million being incentives he could hit.  So a 3 million raise on 13 million dollars isn't far from the 20 percent if that is the number..

I think its awesome that Farve is jerking the media around.  I didn't like him until he was the media's public enemy #1. Now he is my favorite player. I think that all these reporters came up with with the false retirement story just to get him to announce his decision earlier than he wanted and he still jerks them with more conflicting reports, about a "checkup" with Dr. Andrews next week.  My hero #4.  Half these guys complaining about Farve only have jobs because he changes his mind so much.  Like to see those fools throw the rock like that at 40.

And everyone wants to blame Farve

Honestly after hearing a report like this it is hard for me to understand why or how anyone can still blame Brett Farve for this situation.

Hello Vikings, Brett Farve is not bigger than the team, quit acting like it and prepare you team to play football because the season will happen whether he is playing or not.

Yeah, but an extra 7 million dollars sure would make the pain more bearable.

Vikings offer Favre even more money

You have read that he had surgury on his ankle in the off season and
it isnt healing the way he had hoped, correct?

Can you say "smoke screen"?  I think you can.  Favre's image takes enough of a beating with his flip flopping the last several years anyway, he's smart enough not to come right out and say "I'll play right after training camp but I want a raise too".   If Favre was really worried about the ankle being the reason for not playing he would have had the surgery weeks, if not months, earlier than he did to be sure he'd either be ready for training camp or in a position to tell the Vikings "hey, I can't do it anymore".  In fact, if he wants to play Favre could be in camp right now, working on rehabbing his ankle with the team, participating in team meetings, walk-throughs of the offense, throwing to NFL wideouts instead of HS kids, etc.  My money is still on Favre's ankle suddenly being all better and him signing a new $20million dollar contract just as soon as training camp ends.

If Favre takes the extra money over his contract then we know all this stuff about the decision coming down to whether or not he's healthy enough to play, and playing for the love of the game, supporting his teammates, etc is just B/S.  The extra money helped his ankle.  If, big if, Favre comes back for $20mil instead of $13mil, after telling at least some "teammates" that he was retiring we know what most suspected, Favre always intended to play and was just trying to skip training camp again without just admitting he was skipping training camp and, this time, letting his flip-flopping leverage more money out of the Vikings while he holds their plans at QB hostage.

Question -- how do they give him another $7million and which teammate gets cut to cover the cost?  I know its an uncapped year, but isn't their still a rule limiting the amount of the raise in the uncapped year?  Anybody know the amount -- I thought it was like 20%?

Vikings offer Favre even more money

At this point, I'd rather have the vikings win a super bowl than the Cowboys.  right now they are the only team I see standing in the cowboys way in the NFC.  Of course this is all pre-season talk and I hope when the season starts the cowboys start their usual decline, but that team does have so much talent. Wrong, the Saints stand in both of their ways again.
