Vikings offer Favre even more money

We’ll go ahead and get this Brett Favre update out of the way, as well. Which I’m sure will be just fine with you.

According to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune , the Vikings have put together a compensation package that would give Favre $20 million to play this season – a significant raise from the $13 million he already was scheduled to make. Apparently, $16 million would be guaranteed and the other $4 million would come in the form of incentives.

Though Minnesota coach Brad Childress pled ignorance during his Tuesday news conference, Judd Zulgad writes “Vikings tight end Visanthe Shiancoe admitted Favre had ‘told a couple of guys on the team that he was going to retire,’ but the Biloxi (Miss.) Sun Herald reported an unnamed person close to Favre's family said he hadn't made a decision whether to play a second season with the Vikings.”

I know this is easy to say from the outside, but at some point, shouldn’t the Vikings say, “Screw it. Enough is enough. Thirteen million dollars is plenty. If you’re going to continue to jerk us around, forget it. We’ll go with Tarvaris Jackson. You stay retired, Brett.”

OK, that won’t happen, but would anybody blame Minnesota if it took that tact?

Vikings offer Favre even more money

Who cares? How about this scenario! T. Jax leads the Vikings to a Super Bowl Trophy the year after B. "Drama Queen" Favre fails to do so. Now that is something that I would love to see. The only thing better as a Cowboys fan would be Dallas winning the Super Bowl in their new Palace. Let's get ready for some football.

Vikings offer Favre even more money

Man.... I wish someone would offer ME a $7 million raise to stick around at my job for one more year.  I blame my parents for not giving me any good athletic genes.

Vikings offer Favre even more money

I may agree with you ego statement but to act like Favre is doing this for more money
is pretty silly.  You have read that he had surgury on his ankle in the off season and
it isnt healing the way he had hoped, correct?  If Favre isnt healthy, a big pay raise isnt
going to change that and wont have any affect on whether he comes back. Do you think
he is thinking about the money at 40?  No, he is thinking about winning.  He accomplished
nearly everything he set out to last season and that would include slapping the Packers
around twice.  All that is left is getting back to the Super Bowl which is what he said he wanted
to accomplish(as well as slap the Packers around twice).

Oh, please stop using the Diva term.  It makes all that use it sound like you tune into Entertainment
tonight.  These are male athletes, not female singers/entertainers.  Say he is full of himself or
egotistical but enough with that stupid word.

Vikings offer Favre even more money

I am amazed that most of you people just don't get it.  As a life long Packer fan, I respect what Brett has done on the field.  19 winning seasons in his 20 seasons is amazing!  However, he has permanently tarnished his legacy with his Diva attitude and antics over the last 5 years.  He is not a money hungry man...he is an ego maniac!  He wants more money because his ego demands it.  Manning and Brady are about to sign new shiny contracts.  Bradford just signed for $50+MM.  His ego can't handle not being paid as a top 5 quarterback and he craves the attention.

I believe he should still be paid like a top 5 QB.  Look at the numbers he put up last year.  I just wish he'd be up front and say..."I don't want to come to camp", "I want to be paid like the top tier QB that I am".  Brett, stop with all the Diva antocs and be straight up!  Your teamates and fans deserve better!

Lastly, the Packers finally told him to go get bent after years of ths b.s. and look where they are.  Just a bit of advice Viking front office.

Vikings offer Favre even more money

If he does come back for more money, does that mean his original 'reason' for (this) retirement was fake?

MO MONEY???????????????????

I do not think money is an issue. I think that Favre has a confidence problem at times and is unsure of himself at this point.Do not pay any attention to this until they come out of the tunnel and he is or isnt there.
All this boils down to is that it is easier for the sports reporters to write this CRAP instead of going out and digging up real stories.
I am so tired of watching ESPN and everyone else beat the crap of all these dead horses.
Give us something knew for Gods sake.
Earn your money and stop bashing on Favre. If he wants to play, let him play because he is one hell of a lot better at his job than you will ever be at yours.

Vikings offer Favre even more money

Why offer more money?

The "reports" state that Favre doesn't want to return due to his injury and the everyday wear and tear on his body. If he can't play, offering more money won't fix the fact that he can't perform.

OBVIOUSLY. WHY ON EARTH WOULD BRETT FAVRE CHANGE HIS MIND. WE ALL KNOW THAT WHEN HE MAKES A DECISION ITS FINAL...

Vikings offer Favre even more money

Yes, this is different from LeBron...he is 40 years old with an injury that is not healing as fast as he would like (do to a cheap shot, by the way).  He is not going to another team.  Brett Favre does not need the money, by any stretch.  If he feels he can't play 100%, he is not playing.  The extra $$$ don't matter.

The Vikings sure as hell don't have any faith in anyone else, and totally diss TJack and Sage.  And they put their eggs in Brett's basket without the possibility that his injuries would fully heal.  They passed on the possibility of other quality QB's, for example a fully capable D. McNabb.  Now Minnytown is in panic...and so be it.  Nice going Vikes!!!

Born and raised in Cleveland, I became a Vikings fan when I was 8 yrs. old.  So I love both the Browns and Vikings.  So I am a quite the sports loser.  Although the Favre deal hurts a great deal, it is not the same situation as LeBron and what he pulled.

Go T-Jack and Jake Delhomme...OUCH!!!!
