Elvis Dumervil (he of the brand new contract that features $43.168 million in guaranteed money) left Wednesday's practice with an injury, according to Broncos Rapid Reporter Lee Rasizer .

Dumervil was injured during one-on-one drills and headed to the trainer's room "clutching his right arm to his chest."

Now, a report from Adam Schefter on Twitter indicates that the injury is a torn pectoral muscle and that the Broncos' linebacker is out "indefinitely."

Schefter noted that Dumervil could miss up to four months, but it's also entirely possible that the Broncos place the star on Injured Reserve and end his season quite prematurely.

Dumervil was the NFL sack leader last year and was awarded the monster contract just a few weeks ago -- obviously, this is a disastrous scenario for the Broncos if it unfolds as reported.

Follow us on Twitter and tune into the Broncos Rapid Reports for more information as this situation devlops.

Update (12:15): Mike Klis of the Denver Post reports that Dumervil will have surgery to repair the torn pectoral muscle and has will likely be out until "at least November." This means the Broncos are now faced with a serious decision as to whether they keep him on their roster for 2010 and risk him being unable to return (and wasting a roster spot in the process), or place him on IR and end his season early.

It's worth noting that if a player like Darrelle Revis or Vincent Jackson showed up to their respective team's camp today and suffered the same injury, the likelihood of them receiving the long-term contract they're seeking would absolutely plummet.

Of course, this is the nightmare scenario for the team in question: inking a star to a monster deal with a ton of guaranteed money, and then seeing that star get injured before taking a regular season snap. Neither scenario, clearly, is very enticing.

Update (12:21) : The Broncos aren't commenting on Dumervil's injury (yet -- the team is expected to address it later today). Football Outsiders ' Bill Barnwell has pretty bad news for Broncos' fans though; their injury database shows only four players -- Chris Fuamatu-Ma-afala, Ruben Brown, Dave Brown and Matt O'Dwyer -- who returned from pectoral tears to play in the same season. The first three suffered only partial or slight tears. O'Dwyer suffered a full tear and was missed 12 weeks on the PUP list and returned to play four games.

In other words, expecting Dumervil to return in 2010 is a serious long shot. Almost as much as the Broncos finding someone to replace his production this year.

Oh....wait it isn't going to happen. Just found it funny how the 3rd post up was immediatly calling out a Giants fan and Another Fan out on the spot.

So i choose to make him look as stupid as he tried to make them.

Moving on to Dumervil.

He is an Excellent Player, Great Veteran. Hell i wish J.J would have brought him to dallas.

But since you are going to shove words down my throat, let me give it a try...since after all i am the one having to take them down right?

Screw all of you, and the day you can give me the exact time, date, and quote i was "Partying it up" when i "found out" dumervil was hurt
i will personally NEVER post up, and will find time in my "Classless" day to kiss some ass.

Oh wait, that's never going to happen.

I being a Chiefs fans totally agree with BackNBlack8. Although the Broncos are a division rival, I would not wish or cheer one of their players getting injured. Not a Raiders or Chargers player as well.

Its sad to see Dume go down like that but the season has yet to start. To say the Broncos season is over before it started is plain crazy.  It takes a team to win championships, as there is no I in TEAM...

Report: Dumervil out 'indefinitely' after injury

Man injury bug hits Denver. If they were smart they'd place him on the pup list for now. That gives him a while to rehab til week 6 or something? Rather than ending his season now. Robert Ayers...paging Robert Ayers we're going to need you to step up. Cause you're about tou step into the shoes of the NFL sack leader til he's healthy. Let's see if you have the 1st round talent we think you have. Wesley Woodyard is the only other legit option unless you consider Baraka Atkins starting quality. Woodyard has shown good speed, and has decent coverage skills but he doesn't have the size to rush the passer like Ayers or Dumervil. So he'll likely only come in for passing situations. So Ayers is the only real starter left. Unless they choose to sign someone. I guess they could shift Joe Mays outside even though he played middle linebacker in Philly, and Griesen is the main depth inside so he'll likely not move spots.

Report: Dumervil out 'indefinitely' after injury

know everybody who underperforms has an undisclosed injury. But let's not forget that everybody is injured. When the guys on tv were making excuses for him it was because the Cowboys lost the guy on the other side not because of some injury

There was nothing "undisclosed" about Ware's injuries cubuffan.  The stress fracture and the neck injury, especially, were both well publicized in the media.  We're not talking about "bumps and bruises", we talking "fractured bone" in his foot -- makes it quite a bit harder to push off and rush the passer don't you think?  And, yes, the fact that teams single covered Spencer to double or triple team Ware made Ware's job harder as well.  Still made the Pro Bowl ---  you can attack the orginal poster for a lot of things in celebrating Elvis's injury, but you can't use Ware's performance last season to do it.
