Report: Brian Westbrook to join Rams

Longtime Eagles running back Brian Westbrook will sign with the St. Louis Rams on Monday, according to ESPN's Mike Sando.

The veteran free agent had visited with several teams, including the Redskins and Broncos. He's settling on a Rams club that doesn't have a chance at the postseason in 2010, but that can at least offer him a defined third down role behind star Steven Jackson.

Also, Rams offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur spent several years as the quarterbacks coach in Philadelphia. Thus, Westbrook is already familiar with the system.

Report: Brian Westbrook to join Rams

I like how aggressive the Rams are being here. They inquired about TO (even though I think they made the right decision by not bringing him in) and now they go get Westbrook. I hope they continue with this aggressive attitude in the coming years.

Obviously, the Rams are not a finished product. That said, they play in the worst division in all of football. A division that will probably not be very good for quite some time. With some shrewd moves and quick development by Bradford they might not be too many years from competitiveness.

Report: Brian Westbrook to join Rams

As a Rams fan I screamed "Whoooooooooo!" like I'm sure most Rams fans did. Can you picture Bradford in the shotgun with Jackson on his left and Westbrook on his right? Who does the Defense decide to cover? I am SOOO glad I decided to get Sunday Ticket this year!!!

Great for the Rams to get such a good player as a person and talent wise. Good luck Westbrook!

to say the Rams can't make the playoffs is wrong

Every NFL has the same record. Nobody would have said the Dolphins would have made the playoffs at 1-15.

The Rams have most likely the single biggest change at a critical position than anybody, including the Redskins. What did Matt Ryan do for the Falcons?

The Rams had the #2 rusher in the league and he was hurt and everyone keyed on him. If Bradford can get off to a decent start the Rams schedule is VERY favorable.

Damn: I was hoping the 49ers would get him to be a back-up for Frank Gore after Coffee retired suddenly.

this is an awful move for westbrook. he needs to step away from the game before he goes brain dead from another concussion.

This is a good move for Brian and a good move for the Rams, as well.  The Rams may surprise a few people this year, but realistically, they are a couple of years (and a few more players) away from the playoffs.
