Roethlisberger not playing Saturday night

Ben Roethlisberger's playing time was easily one of the top stories to watch (along with the reception he received) for Saturday's preseason games.

Go ahead and scratch Roethlisberger off the list of reasons to tune into the Lions-Steelers game, though, as it appears he won't play tonight.

Per a report from the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette , Roethlisberger is dressed and participated in warm-ups but will not play.
In his place, Byron Leftwich will start.

It's an odd decision to say the least -- given that Roethlisberger won't exactly get any game action for at least 4-6 weeks, you would think that Mike Tomlin would get him as much work as he could. Not to mention, as Andy said , starting Roethlisberger helps to reduce the impact of the crowd's reaction to Big Ben.

Or maybe Tomlin just found out that everyone from Findlay, Ohio was in attendance .

It is funny to listen to all the inbreds in Pissburgh acting as if they are lega scholars.  let's not even mention their 'views" of the legal system when Raven superstar ray lewis was charged with a crime.  where were all the "innocent till proven guilty" pissburgh fans then.

Let me help you and I promise to go real slow so you can get it.  The concept of "innocent until proven guilty" is ONLY applicable to CRIMINAL PROCEEDINGS.  Whether he was arrested or not or convicted or not DOES NOT MEAN HE DID NOT DO ANYTHING WRONG.  Do you blind believers REALLY think that all these random womsn who do not know each other and the commissioner are ALL out to get poor INNOCENT ben???  REALLY???

While he may not have been found "guilty" anyone with half a brain and some common sense can see that the guy is not exactly the kind of strand up guy you want dating your sister.

Grow up steeler fans and stop thinking everything revolves around steeler football and super bowl trophies

stlr4lf80, I believe the "fagpound" is the term reserved for an individuals homo-erotic fantasy encounter with their man-crush. You know, just like the imaginary one with you and Ben. Keep poundin'. Have fun getting beat by the Bungals and Ravens and duking out for 3rd with the Brownies ya fudgesnake.

Wouldn't you like to have this "loser" as your QB on your otherwise pathetic team know as the Lyings?

This is what you ignorant Steelers fans don't understand (and again, not all Steelers fans are ignorant).  Ben Rape'lesberger is a joke to humanity.  Any man who tries to have sex with a woman who is saying no, or is so drunk she is in a bathroom at a bar with Big Ben and "Little" Ben staring down at her...should be behind bars.

If this guy played for the Lions, my team, I would be calling him a joke.  As would most fans in other cities.  It's the fact that so many of Steeler Nation seems to be turning their head when it comes to Ben, and that is a joke on all of us in America.  We usually go out of our way to tear down those who made mistakes (A-Roid, Vick, Bonds, McGwire, Reggie Bush, etc)....but for some reason so many Steelers fans love their football so much, it is ok for Ben to take advantage of women in public places.

Yes, Ben is a loser.  The biggest in the league.

Why play him now?  He'll have PPPPPLLLLLEEEENNNTTTTTYYYYY of time to 'practice" during his suspension for "doing nothing wrong".
