Brett Favre is reportedly on an airplane and headed to (presumably) Minnesota -- NFL Network's Scott Hanson reported on Twitter that Favre "is on a jet heading north."

We earlier mentioned the report that Jared Allen, Ryan Longwell and Steve Hutchinson (three of Favre's best friends on the Vikings) were in Minnesota visiting Favre and urging him to either a) return to the team or b) just make up his freaking mind about playing in 2011.

It would seem , at least based on Hanson's report, that the trio of ambassadors were successful in convincing Favre to return. (Or fly to Minnesota just to announce that he WON'T return, which given Favre's history, is totally within the realm of possibility.)

Either that or we have a very awkward and very public case of kidnapping on our hands.

It's worth noting too that Favre must really be getting old, because he's losing his touch on dragging out his press coverage -- a younger gunslinger would have let the story about the Vikings football-style intervention marinate in the press for a few hours before generating a new story.

Update (2:57): Bob Holtzman, who has likely been living in a tent at the Haittesburg airport for the past three months, reports that Favre "boarded a plane" about "40 minutes ago" ... that plane is indeed headed to Minneapolis.

Update (2:59): Jay Glazer tweets that Favre told the trio of visitors that he is "back in."

WHHHHOOOOO CARES!!!  Probably hooked on pain killers again!  Great player "yes", but a loser when it comes to this parading crap.  Wasn't it just last week that he said it was over because of this and that and this and that reason.  Now all of a sudden he is good.  I hope it gets cracked hard.....really hard.......then after they cart his sorry arse off the field he will get my vote for the Hall of Shame!

the only group that seems to be more into this story are Packer fans.
Correct, Packer fans do care,I wanted Favre back the whole time, no way he gets away with getting the 2 wins last year and dosen't leave the door open for a little "Payback".

How much sweeter for #12 when he hoists the Lombardi Trophy, knowing that he beat the Vikings twice along the way!!!!

P. S. I hope #4's ankle is healthy so there are no excuses after the beat down!!

I hope Favre comes back.  I want my Packers to have two more shots at him while he's in purple.  Obviously, Favre's return makes it harder for the Packers to take the NFC North, but right now, I'd trade the NFC North for a 2-14 season as long as the 2 wins are against the Vikings and Favre.

And in other breaking news, Percy Harvin and Sidney Rice suddenly recover from their preseason ailments and decide to participate after all.

i believe (and please tell me if i am wrong) that favre and other older "stars" of the game will, on occasion,  get special dispensation from their respective franchises to either miss most of the pre-season or get some other form of easier treatment to make life a bit better.

Name one. Name one veteran that year in and year out pretends to be contemplating retirement and then, right before the season, having missed most of camp, suddenly decides "I'm healed, I'll play after all".  Yes veterans might get an extra practice off, play less in preseason games, etc, but no one else I can think of gets to skip training camp almost entirely.

So....apparently the ankle miraculously healed in the last week or so?  Really?  We're supposed to believe the ankle that was causing all the indecision such a short time ago is now all better and so Favre will play, not the fact that he has now missed most of training camp right?  Um, okay, maybe.

he'll play this year.  i believe (and please tell me if i am wrong) that favre and other older "stars" of the game will, on occasion,  get special dispensation from their respective franchises to either miss most of the pre-season or get some other form of easier treatment to make life a bit better.  and they won't tell the public that either. they don't want people to believe someone is getting better treatment than the next football player.  instead of being wishy washy, favre would be called a prima donna, and i don't think he would want that.  i'm not saying it is right or wrong, just that it possibly could be.
