E. Manning (US Presswire)
So much for the Big Ben-Eli Quarterback Class of ’04 reunion this weekend. After sitting out the Steelers’ preseason opener, Ben Roethlisberger is expected to take the field against the Giants. But Eli Manning won’t be doing the same.

Manning sat out practice Wednesday, recovering from the three-inch gash in his head suffered Monday night. Giants coach Tom Coughlin has decided to be cautious with his star quarterback. Right now, the Giants don’t want Manning wearing a helmet, as it would open up the stitches in his forehead. (Isn’t it ironic that Manning can’t wear a helmet the week his team is preparing to face Roethlisberger?)

With Jim Sorgi questionable, Giants third-string quarterback Rhett Bomar could get the start.
