Tra Thomas retires

Marcus McNeill just got some leverage. Veteran left tackle Tra Thomas has decided to retire. Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune broke the story. The Chargers brought Thomas in as a camp body to fill the place of McNeill, who is holding out.

As things stand right now, the Chargers are counting on Brandon Dombrowski at left tackle. Undrafted rookie Brady Bond is now the top backup tackle. Don’t be surprised if San Diego brings in a free agent.

Tra Thomas retires

The Packers blew the opportunity to take full advantage of JJ's incredible talent. They threw way to much to Lofton and way too little to JJ. He was the first receiver ever to have his first three seasons of over 1000 yards per and was the most exciting, acrobatic, athletic receiver I have ever seen. As he said, if he had stayed with the Chargers, Jerry Rice would have been breaking his records.

That was the biggest mistake in Chargers' history (and they've made many). Not doing everything possible to keep JJ probably cost them at least one Superbowl.

I think this problem can be traced back to the owners. They are not football people and once they make their minds up, they don't compromise. Dean Spanos should sit on his hands and watch the games, but he is much too involved. Wish Ditka owned our team.

AJ smith will never be remembered as a great GM with a Super Bowl winning background...In fact until the Spanos family figures this out about AJ, the Bolts will never win a Super Bowl. The only reason AJ is the Chargers GM is by default...He came over as John Butlers right hand man and was handed the job when Mr Butler passed away due to cancer...Look at how he treated Jr Seau and Ladanian as well as many other Chargers. He tries to personify his being tough,I wish the Owners(Spanos family) Cut the head off the snake(AJ) so the Bolts can hopefully win a Super Bowl.I wonder if the Spanos family is intimidated and afraid of AJ...so they let him run the team instead of stepping up to the plate and letting him know who is the real boss.AJ has never won the Super Bowl and will never win won in fact...LT ,Seau and many other former Chargers will go down in History and forever remembered in the NFL long after we are gone...AJ who's he?Oh the guy that ruined the Chargers and NEVER won the Super Bowl...Way to go AJ...at least he allowed Brees go win a Super Bowl on another team...Great Job AJ...aka ...loser :(

Ya and actually Bushrod was really a guard. They just ran out of guys who could play out at LT. So he had to. Now he's the man there until Charles Brown gets into NFl shape and takes over

The Saints played all year with a backup left tackle and they did just fine.  I haven't read what MM is asking for.  Is it a realistic number or does he wan to be the highest paid LT.

Actually... the guy sitting "right behind Dombrowski" is a guy named Tyronne Green.  A player the Chargers think will be very good with one more year of experience.  I believe THAT is actually why AJ is not signing McNiel to a long-term contract yet.  If AJ really wanted to sign McNiel long-term, it would have been done shortly after the Gates signing.  Tra Thomas would have been a 3rd string tackle.  There is no leverage gained at all.
Lights out, LightOut!

Good post.
