What was Tony Scheffler expecting?

It’s hard to say whether we should admire Tony Scheffler’s optimism or pity his naiveté. The tight end spent his first four seasons in Denver and was traded to Detroit this past spring. Saturday, he made his return to Mile High (errr…Invesco Field).

"It was good to be back here, good to win the game," Scheffler told the Denver Post. "But I didn't expect the boos.”
Didn’t expect the boos? Really?

Scheffler was traded because, like Brandon Marshall, he was branded as a player who didn’t buy into what Josh McDaniels was selling. He was even benched late last season for what McDaniels perceived as attitude problems.

Scheffler has always been a good receiving tight end (when healthy), but he never had more than 49 catches in a season for the Broncos. And the Broncos never won a playoff game during his tenure. In other words, this wasn’t exactly Kevin Garnett returning to Minnesota.

Scheffler may not have anticipated the boos, but to his credit, he didn’t get too disrupted by them. "It surprised me, but that's all right, I don't play here anymore," he said.

What was Tony Scheffler expecting?

I say we "pity the fool".
Frankly, any player that's not performing as a "team member" needs to go. What the team got out of Scheffler last season was a glimpse of potential. It too bad, 'cause that's not what's neede on this team. The NFL requires work horses!!
