Roethlisberger 5-game suspension a hoax?

Earlier we reported that Mike Wise of the Washington Post says, from what he’s hearing, Ben Roethlisberger’s suspension will be reduced from six games to FIVE games.

Now, we pass along this tweet from Michael David Smith of Fanhouse: “Mike Wise of the Washington Post is bragging on the radio that he picked up Twitter followers by fabricating a story.”

MDS had a second tweet shortly after: “What Wise did is worse than what Cowlishaw did. Cowlishaw made a mistake. Wise intentionally misled.”

At this point, it's hard to say what is what. Is Wise making a bad joke on Twitter? A bad joke on the radio? No joke at all?

The story will sort itself out -- likely by the end of the day, and definitely by the end of the week. Roethlisberger is scheduled to meet with Roger Goodell after the Steelers’ final preseason game Thursday.

Because Goodell has publicly praised the suspended quarterback, saying he has done more than what’s been asked of him the past few months, many observers believe Roethlisberger’s suspension will be reduced to four games.

A five-game suspension would, in a small way, be an admonishment of Big Ben.

Roethlisberger 5-game suspension a hoax?

What I don't understand is how can a conviction be less severe than accusations?  I always thought accusations were founded on one person's word against another?  Does this make any sense to any of you?????

Roethlisberger suspension to be 5 games?

In light of the inappropriate action of other players in recent months, for example Vince Young, with little or no action from Goodell's office, it would seem to me that any suspension at all for Ben Roethlisberger is over the top. The extreme inconsistency in determining punishment makes Roger Goodell appear two-faced at best, discriminatory at worst.

Let's remember, despite all the media circus acrobatics, Ben Roethlisberger has never even been charged of a crime. The only thing he's clearly guilty of is exhibiting really bad judgement. I can personally accept a two game suspension as a wake-up call for him, but even that is excessive in my view. A 4-6 game suspension punishes not only Ben, but his teammates, the franchise, and all the fans, especially the ticket holders. Virtually regardless of what Goodell's final decision is later this week, he is out of line on this matter in my opinion.

Roethlisberger suspension to be 5 games?

Michael Vick gets convicted of a crime and gets his reduced by two games?   Give me a break Goodell.  Personally, I think that where there is smoke there is fire with Ben but he does seem to be doing everything to get his life turned around.   He is doing everything the Commissioner requested and it should be reduced to four games.    Goodell is saying a conviction is less severe than accusations at this point.

Roethlisberger suspension to be 5 games?

Well what the heck?  What constitutes good behavior?  Is not having any bad behavior considered good behavior?  It was when we were in Kindergarten.....  Fine it's a six game suspension but what's the criteria for a reduction to four games versus a reduction to five games?  It's so arbitrary and capricious and it was garbage to suspend him in the first place when there wasn't even an arrest.

Roethlisberger suspension to be 5 games?

Ben's suspension was not conditional on good behavior.  Goodell said that it could be reduced by good behavior.  So in all actuality, Ben's suspension could have been 6 games no matter how well he behaved.

Roethlisberger suspension to be 5 games?

The deal was it could be reduced to 4 games, why is 5 now in the picture? This whole suspension and the inconsistencies in the NFL front-office just does note make sense. Goodell just does stuff to please the media, and he has no set approach that would make him consistent in this area. The Players Union should have a serious issue with this whole process. Drug violations and arrests warrant more than "heresay" from some college girls.
