Crabtree, Vernon Davis have sideline argument

Pretty busy day in the NFC West -- in addition to the ongoing Matt Leinart saga (MORE, somehow, on that in just a bit), 49ers offensive stars Michael Crabtree and Vernon Davis apparently had some not-so-nice words for each other during the team's walkthrough.

According to our 49ers Rapid Reporter Michael Erler , Crabtree and Davis got into a little spat that garnered some unwanted attention from head coach Mike Singletary.

Earlier reports that Singletary came over to talk to the two players and "after Davis became animated, Singletary escorted both players to the locker room."

A little while later, Davis came out of the locker room and then was followed by Crabtree and Singletary shortly thereafter. They're now standing on the sideline with "a dozen teammates" between them.

There's no telling -- at least right now -- what caused the confrontation, but with both Davis and Crabtree, we're talking about reasonably explosive personalities. I'm sure reporters will ask about it when Singletary talks to the press, and I'm also pretty sure that he won't want to discuss it.

If there's anything we know about a trip to the locker room that involves Singletary, though, it could be a) pantless, b) motivational or c) both pantless and motivational.

Update (3:55): Singletary spoke! And he said, "I will not talk about the issue. They were both in the wrong." He also apparently called the beef (my words) between Crabtree and Davis the "elephant in the room" (his words), which certainly makes it seem like something more than just a little sideline blowup.

Neither one of these guys is Frank Gore.... so they should probably play nice and help the niners win some games.  They have a solid team now... don't mess it up.

Sam, I do not think you have to be worried about Davis. Remember that it was Crabtree that had the attitude problem in College and a big reason why the Raiders passed on him in the draft. Crabtree has always been a headcase and this is just another example.

Crabtree, Vernon Davis have sideline argument

Why is everyone so down on Crabbytree? As a Raider fan, (LONGTIME - not the latest lil' bandwagon bee-otch's) he looks like a real talent out on the field. Unfortunately, he might have maturity issues, but who f'kn cares? Has anyone noticed the trend of most of these talented WR's out there? Oakland could use him, but the Whiners can keep him, Good Luck.

Crabtree, Vernon Davis have sideline argument

I would be willing to bet it was Crabtree with the issues. We saw what kind of character Crabtree was last year. Apparently that is carrying over to 2010. Vernon Davis has been down that road already with Mike as previously stated. Anyone remember the "Can't win with them, can't coach with them, can't play with them rant that Singletary went on about Vernon Davis? I am pretty sure Vernon Davis hasn't forgotten.

Davis is not the problem.  Crabtree already thinks he is going to the hall of fame.  If anyone is going to be an issue it will be him.  After Singletary got to Davis he has been one helluva player and teammate.  Don't say ignorant things like that.

I really hope these two guys can put there egos aside and try to play for their team.  They really have a chance to do something this year.
