Ian Rapoport tweets that the Boston Herald is reporting that a contract extension for Patriots quarterback Tom Brady is “imminent”. The terms are said to be three years, $58 million.

Pro Football Talk says that Brady and Patriots owner Robert Kraft spent time together over the weekend in Cape Cod. (Big weekend for AFC East owners visiting financially-dissatisfied superstars).

Brady is set to make $6.5 million in 2010. If he signs the offer on the table, he’ll be a Patriot through age 36.

UPDATE (11:22 a.m.) Adam Schefter of ESPN tweets, "Aware of Brady-contract talk. But two knowledgeable people say reports of deal being in place are 'inaccurate" and "wrong'. We'll see."

Report: New contract for Brady is 'imminent'

The fact that Matt Cassell put up comparable numbers to Tom Brady shows that Brady should not be getting $19 million a year.

I didn't realize Cassell brought 3 rings...oh wait, it wasn't Brady and his Montana like "cool hand luke's" performances during those sb runs, it was the other no-name players who Brady made better during those superbowl runs that we should give credit to.

Are you kidding me? You put Cassell and Brady in the same sentence? Cassell was lucky enough to be an under-study of Brady and what he brought to the Chiefs is all due to Brady and his relentless work ethic leadership that he learned from. Brady is a leader and he has taken a paycut to make this team better, he's due for a huge payday and Mr. Kraft is giving it to him.

End of story......and I am not even a Patriots fan.

Haha. It must make Brady SO ticked that Eli makes more than him... after Eli also beat him in the Superbowl... LOL

The Pats argument for paying Brady less: Well, YOU think you're better than him, but he DID beat you in the Superbowl..."

Love it.

Welker is on his last leg...I just hope they have no cash left to grab guys like V jack...Patriots are old and their best years are behind them..they made their hay 10 years ago...let it go pats fans.

Report: New contract for Brady is 'imminent'

Typical idiotic hater comment. Look at the receivers he won the SB'S with. Not much.

the Pats were not a mediocre team. Their first title in 2001 was the only time you could say that. The '03 and '04 teams both went 14-2 in the regular season and were loaded defensively. That being said...Brady is THE REASON the Patriots have any rings at all, much less 3 of 'em.  He is the best clutch player I've ever seen, he made scrubs like David Givens and David Patten look good, and the only legit No. 1 receiver he had for any titles was Troy Brown.  He plays in the elements and faces the most competitive division in football, and he's shown that if you give him weapons like the other great QB's had, he can put up better number than all of them.

Highest Winning percentage of any QB in the superbowl era....so he's the best at winning
Touchdown Record....so he's also the best at scoring
Best TD:INT ratio of all-time....so he's also the least mistake-prone and makes great decisions
As a first year starter he took control of his team and led them to a title....so he's one of the best leaders
With the exception of tearing his ACL on a low hit, he's never missed a start.....so he's one of the most durable QB's

So the QB who is the biggest winner, most efficient scorer ever, makes the fewest mistakes, had the best season ever by a QB, plays in tough weather, commanded championship locker room from day-1, who plays his best football in crunch time and led one of the greatest drives in Super Bowl history is just good?
Not only is he GREAT, a case can be made that he's the best ever

Why don't you actually do a little research before you post garbage.   Look at Brady's 2007 stats (year before his injury), with Cassel's 2008 stats (yr Brady went down in the 1st quarter of game 1).   I'll save you some time though.

Brady - 2007 ;  50 TD's/8 Ints, 4,800 yrds passing, QB rating of 117, 70% completion
Cassell - 2008 ; 21 TD's/11 Ints, 3,700 yrds, 63% completion

Brady is a very good QB, not a great QB.  He has 3 rings because he played on the best team.sportsDVI,

How many other "good QB's have three SB rings, is a two time SB MVP & Leave MVP? I'll leave some space below for your response:

Also for most of the SB run, the Pats were a mediocre team at best.

Now, It is a joke that Eli Manning is the highest paid QB in the NFL.

Spend that money on him Patriots.  Not only will it piss off Randy Moss some more but the rest of the league likes seeing you throw money away when you used to never do that.

Brady is a very good QB, not a great QB.  He has 3 rings because he played on the best team.

Brady absolutely deservis the contract he is one of the best qb's of his era and ever in the league thanks to the muffed call in the snowbowl game against oakland but oh well they earnedit in the future. As for Adam Schefter does anyyone believe any reports outy of ESPN anymore?

Brady definately deserves this payday, especially considering what other league QBs are getting.  I worry however what Randy Moss will think of the timing of this deal.  He's also in the last year of his deal and wont be getting anything near this level of money.
