Report: Delhomme in a walking boot right now

Jake Delhomme's performance against Tampa Bay was one of the more disappointing items of the first NFL weekend. Perhaps his head was still ringing from the Ndamukong Suh "tackle" during the preseason.

The more likely cause is a first half ankle injury which he fought through , and which now, according to Tony Grossi of the Cleveland Plain-Dealer , has him in a walking boot.

Grossi's source also believes that Seneca Wallace will get the "bulk of reps" with the first team Wednesday in anticipation for Delhomme not being able to start against the Chiefs on Sunday.

Or, at the very least, being listed as questionable on the team's Week 2 injury report, which Delhomme probably will.

If Delhomme can't go against the Chiefs, that should mean a healthy dose of Jerome Harrison ... er, well, it should . But he's (apparently) done something evil to Eric Mangini's family, because there's no other way to explain how a guy who put up a season's worth of rushing yards in the last three games of 2009 is still splitting carries with fumble-machine Peyton Hillis and only getting carries when the team is backed into its own end zone.

That's an entirely different rant to rumble off on; the point here is that there's a decent chance Delhomme might not play on Sunday, depending on the severity of the ankle injury.
