It's been reported the Black Eyed Peas will play the 2011 Super Bowl halftime show (Getty). Posted by Josh Katzowitz

Some sad news to report.

According to SPORTSbyBROOKS, the Black Eyed Peas are slated to play the 2011 Super Bowl halftime show.

While the news probably will be met with relief for anybody who didn’t grow up in the 1970s or earlier – remember such oldies-but-goldies acts as The Who (2010), Bruce Springsteen (2009), Tom Petty (2008), the Rolling Stones (2006), and Paul McCartney (2005) (though, on a personal note, I covered the 2009 Orange Bowl, and the Doobie Brothers halftime show was actually pretty awesome).

But I’ve got to say, what a terrible, terrible choice for anybody who … you know … actually likes music.

I actually had not ever listened to the Black Eyed Peas, and then I happened to catch them on Saturday Night Live in 2009. I could not believe how bad it was. Lyrically, musically, fashionally. Just terrible.

My lovely lady lumps? Really?

Just brutal.

I guess I won't watch the 2011 SB halftime show

I would like to formally apologize to the author of this piece.  I WAS WRONG.  The Black Eyed Peas were HORRIBLE and it was sad to watch the NFL "Fail" again with their SB halftime show.  BEP is obviously one of those bands that can only sound good when the songs are cut (and severely edited) in a sound studio. Will.I.Am was okay, Fergie looked like a porker and couldn't find the right key to save her life, and that other guy looked like it was his first time on a big stage.
Truly they were horrible, and I apologize for disagreeing with you at the time this article was published.

But I will not - nay, I WILL NOT - sit here and be insulted about my musical tastes.

What's really funny is that you feel it's appropriate to sit and insult & express your hatred for what the BEP do, but when someone calls you on your musical taste youor panites get all bunched up.

Second of all, I'm a writer, and I like lyrics that are well-written. The BEP doesn't have that talent apparentlyWell obviously not everyone can have the talent of a literary genious like you Katzowitz.

I'm not really into the whole pop music scene either, but to sit here and say someone is not talented when considering all they have accomplished is crazy.

Just look at the following they have.  They must be doing something right.  They are a very popular group and the NFL will do well with something a little more urrent involved in the SB.

Whether you are actually a geezer or not, you are obviously of the group that discounts the musical elements of music and only focuses on the lyrics.  Lyrics can be important if you're sitting back listening to a song at home, in the car or whatnot, but we're talking about a football halftime show!
Think energy, dancing, FUN!  There are very few groups in history that have successfully combined good music with meaningful lyrics, and you can't aways get them to do the SB.  But, and it's an important "but,"  I'd much rather have energy with less substance than the parade of half dead has beens that have sucked the life out of many SB shows recently.
Think about the context here JK, and THEN decide if it was a good match or not.
