Burress: 'Can't go any lower than being here'

Plaxico Burress hasn't made news in a while -- his work release was denied by the state of New York and for now, he sits and waits in prison.

Recently, the New York Daily News decided to sit with him , and find out how life is going for Burress right now. Predictably, it's not going well.

"You can't go any lower than being here, other than being in the ground," Burress says. "It's about as tough as it gets, on a personal level. You learn a lot about yourself. You try to think about the bigger picture, about life outside these walls. You just try to find a way to get through."

Honestly, I shiver a little when I think of what's happening with Burress now; not because I stick guns into my sweatpants and walk into nightclubs, but because a dumb decision that was based around self-protection somehow backfired into a two-year prison sentence.

"You can't change history, no matter what you try to do," Burress says. "I didn't do anything to anybody. I did it to myself. I committed a crime. I broke the law. That's why I'm here. I can't do anything about it, so you have to try to change your outlook, think about positive things. If I'm so intent on going back to that moment, then I'm not making any progress. I'm not moving forward."

That's the precise sort of behavioral change that both Roger Goodell and the state of New York look for when they discuss (respectively) reinstatement and parole.

And while it might seem he's a long way from playing in the NFL, at least this week there's the well-timed ascension of Michael Vick to starter of the Eagles to at least provide a light at the end of the tunnel.

Plaxico was more stupid then anything criminal.  Sure it was re-god damn -diculous for him to carry around a gun with him and all that, but it's not like he commited manslaugter or tortured animals like a 12yo future serial killer like some of our "other nfl stars".

There's a lot of mixed feelings, you know he didn't have good intentions carrying the gun around, and he could have hurt others, but the ridiculousness of the incident just makes it hard to get mad..

Guess I just can't relate to the story at all and just think of him more as a moron before all the other stuff.

Guess I also am not to positive (or interested to be honest) to know the fine details like what prison/what security it has and all that though.  For all I know he could be sitting in a low security prison that's more like sitting in jail with it's expanded cable, cards, large single cells, etc., etc.

So yeah, anything said could probably be taken apart by someone more motivated by the story I suppose, lol...

Burress: 'Can't go any lower than being here'

I don't like Burress or the G-Men (Eagles fan) but i hope a team gives him a shot when he's out of prison.  America's all about redemption.  He's older than Vick though so it'll be a long shot.

Burress: 'Can't go any lower than being here'

This is a very sad story. Personally, I dont think that Burress ever puts on another NFL uniform again. Its a shame and as a Giants fan I miss him on the field.
