Reports surfaced yesterday that Kevin Faulk had a torn ACL following his injury against the Jets.
Now it appears as if that news is correct and that Faulk will miss the rest of 2010 -- Adam Schefter reports that Faulk will be placed on season-ending injured reserve some time Wednesday.
The news is obviously a huge blow to the Patriots; Faulk's been their go-to third down back for what feels like forever, and you could argue that in terms of what he provided them as a pass-catching back (not to mention a jack-of-all-trades) is nearly impossible to replicate.
Fred Taylor is still the "feature back" as it were, but he's certainly not the youngest fella on the planet, and suddenly the Pats' trade of Laurence Maroney seems a little more hasty than anyone ever thought it would. Sammy Morris is the likely fill-in for much of Faulk's duties.
Retirement remains a possibility for Faulk as well -- Ian Rapoport tweeted Wednesday that Faulk's son asked him if "this was it" for the back who ranks third all-time in Patriots yards from scrimmage.
