Did the Browns call Eagles about trading Kolb?

There are some conflicting reports out there today about whether or not the Cleveland Browns called the Philadelphia Eagles to inquire about acquiring starter-turned-benchwarmer Kevin Kolb.

Mike Florio passes along a report from Anthony Gargano of WIP in Philadelphia, where Gargano claims that the Browns "already have called about a possible trade for Kolb."

However, Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain-Dealer called the report "untrue" on Twitter. Well, at least she said that a "report that the Browns called the Eagles last night" was "untrue."

And maybe she's right. But the circumstantial evidence involved in the situation at least would lend some credibility to the belief that there was a discussion.

To wit: Tom Heckert, the General Manager for the Cleveland Browns, was in Philadelphia when the team drafted Kevin Kolb. So, clearly, he's a fan. Also clear: he can pretty easily get in contact with Andy Reid.

Then there's Reid's response to a question about Kolb being on the roster by the trade deadline this year (or opening day next season) -- well, actually, non -response is more accurate, since Reid simply said he "can't predict anything down that far."

Finally, the Cleveland Browns have young talented players and no quarterback. Kolb would be an ideal fit for an offense that Mike Holmgren would want implemented and there's no reason to think that Eric Mangini would be opposed to starting someone other than Seneca Wallace, provided he has any pull.

So that's not to say that the Browns did call the Eagles and try to acquire Kolb, but it's a trade that makes some potential sense if Philly feels that their long term future is Michael Vick.

To correct myself---actually, I think there a 3 QBs that could pull 2 second rounders, or maybe even a 1st and 4th, but all 3 have superbowl rings.

brawlers -

The bottom line, regardless of who Kolb started against, is that the Eagles made a terrible decision based on a couple of meaningless games last year. Now they go from perennial playoff contender to bottom rung of the NFL - hell they almost lost to the Lions with Shaun Hill at QB.

and thats all they were...a playoff contender...
here is the facts:
McNabb is a very good/great QBPhilly gave him 12 YEARS to get it done
HE TOOK THEM TO 1 SUPERBOWL and LOST...dont even try to blame TO
No player, owner, coach or fan dreams of, and commits their LIFE just to got to NFC Championship games.
The fact is McNabb is very talented, but simply could not get the job done.  As I said in a Vick post, its not a knock on his ability, it could be a chemistry thing, could be a right offensive scheme/ wrong plarer, right player/wrong offensive scheme (for him) kinda thing.  The point is that after 12 years, as an owner you have to start thinking about moving on, and once you make that decision, you have to trade the guy while you can get maximum value. I highly doubt it had anything to do with money, being that Philly dumped 12 million guaranteed on Kolb. They needed to get what they could for McNabb while they could..that simple.  I thought they got good value for him with the picks they got- (gotta remeber that even a great QB in the twilight of his career will not pull 2 second rounders in this day and age) a 2nd and 4th pick was very good, the sacrifice was trading to a divisional rival.  If they thought Washington would go nowhere with McNabb, or they(Philly) could beat them in the division regardless, then it was a good deal.
Eagles will win the division with Vick if they can fix the defense....any bet takers?  (btw, I live in bid D and am a Cowboys fan)Eagles will beat Washington with VickIf Eagles make it to the playoffs, and the defense can actually play, they could easily be the NY Giants of 2007..no one will see them coming.
If Vick wins Phily the superbowl.(dont laugh, its possible..anythings possible this early) Will all the Phily fans finally admit that Reid maybe actually kinda sorta knows what he is doing?  I doubt it.  Everyone gives McNabb all the credit..your COACH has taken you to all those NFC Championship games, and the superbowl..and just like the judgement on McNabb, the coach has also not gotten it done..Thats what a lot of this is about. Reid HAS to get something done quickly..or maybe HIS job is the next in line.

Reid should trade Kolb before everyone realized he played well last year against Kansas City and Carolina, 2 power house teams
sorry, but you arent all correct, he DID beat Kansas City, BUT he didnt play well vs. Carolina. He came in after McNabb pretty much kicked their butt and then Kolb played vs. the Saint and lost in a shootout and beat Kansas City.
Kolb started against the Saints (L) and the Chiefs (W).  Mcnabb beat Carolina badly.  it was running in for a TD where he got hurt, HENCE the STARTS by Kolb.
you now are fully correct!!!! McNabb got hurt on a play where he ran for a touchdown, some Eagle fans said it was a dirty hit, then Kolb started the next 2 weeks, dont know if he played the Saints first or the Chiefs, BUT those were the two teams he played, he beat the Chiefs and lost in a shootout to the Saints, BUT he had BIG numbers in both games, but Broadsbrawlers, dont freak out about this guy messing up with Carolina, at least he was closer than one post i read. This guy BASHED Kolb by saying that Kevin Kolb beat the Redskins (WAY untrue) and some other loser team. The Saints as far as i know arent losers and he never played the Redskins.
