Reid gives reason for benching Kolb

So, Eagles coach Andy Reid is trying to protect former starter/current backup Kevin Kolb. Protect him from the scrutiny of those enormously-sympathetic Philadelphia fans. Protect him from the local media who would “crucify” (Reid’s words, not mine) the young Kolb.

That’s what he told’s Peter King.

“He's a franchise quarterback,” Reid told King. “He will win games, and championships, for the Eagles. But I think it's a different deal when you go out there and can't make a mistake or you're going to get crucified, which is the way this thing might have gone if he went back in there now.”

Then, strangely, Reid denied making those comments. But as points out, Reid later changed his mind and admitted to saying exactly that.

Apparently, he said through a team spokesman, he misunderstood a reporter’s question.

Why did Reid, then, repeatedly insist Kolb was the starter, no matter what Michael Vick accomplished on the field?

"I needed to buy myself some time, to think about this and make the right decision,” he told King.

I guess all of this makes sense. But it's kind of weird the way Reid went about making - and then informing the fan base of - this decision.

Kolb had two good games last.  Funny know one mentions the good thing games he had only the few minutes he played in one.  He started out bad, who knows he could have gotten better.

Reid gives reason for benching Kolb

I think Coach Reid should have just said that he didn't want to rush Kolb back from his injury(concussion).  That way he could have left Vick as the starter and not created such a mess.  All this talk of trading Kolb is crazy.  What if Vick gets hurt?  He runs a lot and got sacked 6 times against Detroit!  I hope he stays healthy and has a great year.  Then we can trade one of them in the off season and sign a good back up.  Fly Eagles Fly!!!!!!!!

Vick has played extremely well, no one can deny that.  He has looked excellent throwing the ball.  But what happens when he becomes the inconsistant QB he was in Atlanta.  Vick had stretches like this with the Falcons.  He would look all-world and every writer, pundit, and commentator would tell you that he is the new breed of QB.  Yes he won games.  Yes he put up stats.  It really is stunning to hear this all over again.  Everybody is back on the Vick will take you to a Super Bowl bandwagon.  What does Andy do if this goes south?  Turn to Kolb and say well it's your team again.  If I was Kolb, I'd ask are you sure this time?  You mean I get to play the whole game, and not just part of it.  Andy made this move out of fear of regressing to a rebuilding team.  He didn't want the fans to curcify Kolb, that's a load of crap.  He let the fans do that to Donovan.  He believes that they have enough talent to win a Super Bowl.  I don't think that's the case.  They have skill position players, but no O-line to speak of.  What is so horrible about retooling/rebuilding?  Let the team grow together a little.  Andy can't do that.  He thinks that he has to be in the playoffs every year.  While that's nice, you have to let your talent grow together a little bit.  If Vick plays well the rest of the year, what then?  Andy's back himself into a corner here too.  Does he resign Vick, or really turn it over to Kolb?  At this point I'm not real sure what he's going to do.

With your ability to spell and use the English language, I'm sure you'd be a mcuh better coach for the Eagles.

wiseguy,,, do you really thik that after a few more quarters like he had in The Greenbay game that he would still be starting.
Do you think that with this O-line he would still be alive,, I doubt it
