Naturally, you remember what happened to Jaguars WR Kassim Osgood last week (I say "naturally," because it’s not very often that an NFL player has to make an escape out of a second-story window after a gun-wielding assailant breaks into the house of the woman that player is visiting).
Now, it appears the man charged in the alleged attack might have had some mental issues in the past. That’s what an April 20 protective order taken out by the 19-year-old woman Osgood was visiting would suggest.
The Florida Times-Union has the details.
Mackenzie Putnal took out the protective order against Julian Bartletto because she said he couldn’t handle their breakup and had threatened to kill himself. Since they broke up in March after a year of dating, she said, he had begun to stalk her, including an April 15 incident at Florida State College in Jacksonville, where she’s a student.
In the protective order, she wrote, “He tried to run me off the road by swerving his vehicle into my vehicle, cutting in front of me and slamming on his brakes. (He) then blocked my vehicle, yelling that he was going to kill himself.”
Although Bartletto was held for mental observation after that confrontation, he was back in the college parking lot four days later waiting for Putnal.
Five months later, he allegedly broke into her house, where she was watching TV with Osgood, and threatened to kill the both of them. Police say Bartletto pistol-whipped both of them before Osgood and Putnal tried to escape. Eventually, Putnal and Bartletto exchanged gun fire as Osgood ran to a neighbor’s home to call the police.
According to the newspaper, Bartletto remains in jail, charged with aggravated battery, false imprisonment, armed robbery, burglary and violation of the injunction.
