Mark Clayton could be done for season

UPDATE: The worst case scenario is confirmed: Clayton is done for the season with a torn patella tendon.

Rams WR Mark Clayton, who’s quickly become a favorite of rookie QB Sam Bradford, might be out for the season with a right knee injury. After the game, coach Steve Spagnuolo said the injury could be a torn patella tendon.

Clayton was traded by the Ravens before the season began after they acquired T.J. Houshmandzadeh, but Clayton found new life with Bradford and St. Louis. He entered the game with 22 catches for 300 yards and two touchdowns – all of which were tops on the team.

But while running a deep pattern in the first quarter of St. Louis’s 44-6 loss to the Lions, his knee gave out without any contact and he fell to the ground. He had to be carted off the field. Clayton was later fitted with an air cast.

What a shame the Rams were exciting until the Lions game.

It should be a problem for the Rams this week. All they have to do is play great Special teams and wait for the Chargers to fumble.

You must not pay attention to college football there are two great juniors most likely coming out in this years draft. Aj Green and Julio Jones. A. J Green is a clone of Randy Moss.

Seriously, the Rams are cursed at the WR position.  You could tell how much his injury affected Bradford the rest of the game, it was like he lost his safety blanket.  Anyway, as a true Rams fan I really enjoy watching them play this year more than I have in a long time, but losing Clayton really sucks because him and Bradford were clicking so good on the field.  Even though Clayton was looking like a #1 WR   this season, I still think that before the start of the 2011 season the Rams need to draft or sign a big time WR that can grow with Bradford.  The problem is that there isn't any real #1 WR that are going to be available in the 2011 draft and the free agent class for next year isn't looking very good either. We might have to wait till 2012 to find someone like that, in that case I just hope Clayton and Avery can come back strong next season and prove me wrong.   I just hope the Rams don't do something stupid and overpay for someone like Vincent Jackson.

I think the reason Bradford and Clayton clicked was because they both attended the University of Oklahoma. Although they didn't play together, apparently Clayton came back to OU during the off season and trained with Bradford while he was still playing QB there.  They had a prior relationship and were friendly so it probably just helped their confidence.
