Brandon Meriweather's gotten more flak than anyone else during this whole "he hit my helmet/she hit my helmet" NFL kerfuffle this week, just because his hit was considered the dirtiest of them all.

Good news is, he's very sorry about what he did.

"Once again, I’m going to say I’m sorry for the hit. I understand the league is trying to protect the health of all our players," Merriweather, who according to Mike Reiss 'might have been fighting [to] keep his emotions in check,' said.

"To be honest, I just want all this to go away. I want to focus, with the rest of my team, on the Chargers and really not let this come up again. I’m going to try my best to play within the rules, like my coach had always taught us. I’m going to hit and play the game like my coaches have always taught us. Even in training camp, we have always been taught the proper way to hit. Just focus on that and try to put it in my game in some way, shape or fashion.

"From here on, I’m focusing on the Chargers. Anything else spoken about this, I will not comment on."

It's great that he's publicly repentant, although it won't get him 10 percent of his salary back any time soon. And it won't change how the NFL approaches his play on the field if he doesn't turn those feelings into physical behavior on the field.

Yes Meriweather's hit was cheap, but at least he manned up, apologized and took responsibility.  Harrison should just retire now because after his comments that he tries to "hurt" players on every hit and now his childish pouting as anytime he looks cross eyed at an opposing player, he is going to get a flag.  You don't win these types of battles with the referees and now that he has accepted the headhunter nametag, he is stuck with the consequences.  And yes there is a difference between a young player making a boneheaded hit versus a veteran who publicly acknowledges that he can't play his position legally and within the rules.

Meriweather's hit was by far the worst of the 3 everyone has been talking about.  In my opinion he clearly was attempting to knock heap out with a cheap and unprofessional head shot.  I think he deserves the $75k fine instead of Harrison.  harrison's shot was head hunting and Robinson's hit was just a clean hard football hit and I think Robinson is getting screwed in this situation.

Classy player and person apologizing for a bad hit. Unlike the thug Harrison who is having a temper tantrum and is home with his thumb in his mouth when he should be practicing how to hit correctly by the rules. Cheap dirty typical Steeler player more than likely on some kind of growth hormones meant for cattle not people.

I hope the apology is sincere, but it came after the fine so you've got to wonder.  You also need to remember that his initial apology, on Monday, he said, "I’m going to be aggressive. Point blank. I won’t change my game, period. I’m sorry it happened.”  He seems a lot more contrite after being fined 50k.  Seems like a he's singing a different tune.  I hope he is sincere.  Vicious hit, but it sounds like the NFL found a way to hit back where it hurts the most.
