Favre: Sterger matter is 'a league issue'

The only thing different about Brett Favre's press conference was that reporters opened fire immediately by asking about the Jenn Sterger matter and Favre's interview with the NFL on Tuesday. (Previously, those questions were usually snuck in the backdoor of the presser; as always, he was late.)

Of course, the early nature of the inquiries didn't stop Favre from sidestepping the questions.

"That's a league issue that I'll just have to leave at that," Favre said, when asked about his interview with the NFL.

A sneaky pair of follow-ups of whether it was a relief to pass a milestone (500 career TDs) in the midst of all the speculation about his personal life, and whether he was concerned with a suspension and/or a fine didn't shake the veteran either.

"Once again, I'll refer that to [the league]," Favre said. "I just know that my focus is on Green Bay, the next opponent.

As it was last week and the week before. It's a huge challenge for us."

In fact, the only time Favre seemed caught off guard was when asked about why he hasn't issued a denial yet. No. 4 appeared flustered, stuttered a reasonable bit, and then reiterated that the only thing he will say about the matter is "something within the league" (or "a league issue" if you prefer).

There's not much else you can expect Favre to say, though -- it would be foolish of him to try and expound in a press conference about an issue that's still in the "alleged" stage, and one that, if there is no concrete evidence found, could result in fading out.

Of course, at this stage, Sterger has hired a lawyer and the NFL is still investigating and questioning folks (although for some reason the league hasn't bothered calling anyone at Deadspin), so Favre should probably get used to issuing standard denials to these sort of questions, as it doesn't appear that they'll quit coming until at least after his trip back to Green Bay.

Update (1:35): Sterger's lawyer tells the Pioneer-Press that the NFL contacted him about interviewing his client and that they are "considering" it. Things just took a turn for the spicy.

Update (1:50): Well, just break out the cayenne, because the NFL emailed Deadspin too -- they've posted a screengrab of the email Milt Ahlerich, the VP of Security, sent to AJ Daulerio, editor of Deadspin (you may recall our podcast with him last week) an email. This should be a fun week.

This all started with an attempt to create a distraction before the Minn-Jets game..

Screw NY and screw this bimbo and anyone involved with this.

And people wonder why there is anger towards climbing, gold-digging women and NY City ?
