It’s not often that we find Tony Siragusa as the source of news, but the former nose tackle turned FOX commentator shared an interesting gem with viewers of the Packers-Jets game Sunday. Early in the week, the Jets cut defensive lineman Howard Green. Shortly after that, the Packers picked him up off waivers.
After Green got a few snaps of action, the FOX announcers started talking about what a hectic week the veteran had had. That’s when Siragusa informed everyone that Green had gone into the Jets Week 7 bye weighing 360 pounds and had come out of it pushing 375. THAT’S why the team let him go. At least, that’s the way Siragusa tells it.
Some have suggested that the Jets may have told Green to get his weight down during the bye and that he merely failed to do so. Either way, Rex Ryan cut him, despite knowing that the Jets’ Week 8 foe, Green Bay, would almost certainly sign him. Green was effective in the limited snaps he played Sunday.
