The Donovan McNabb benching remains, by far, the biggest and most bizarre story from Sunday. Expect it to gain some serious legs over the next few days. Some of the Redskins’ most prominent veterans are saying they were as surprised by the move as the rest of America.

Highly respected leader Phil Daniels said, according to Grant Paulsen of 106.7 The Fan, ''It surprises me with all the comebacks (McNabb’s) had in his career ... but as players we don’t make decisions.''

Mike Jones of TBD.com reports that Daniels, along with outspoken cornerback DeAngelo Hall, said he thought at the time that McNabb must have been injured.

This is the type of situation that could cost Mike Shanahan the locker room. Shanahan has now very publicly benched his best defensive and offensive players for not being erudite in the Redskins’ system. Obviously, sitting a malcontent like Albert Haynesworth does not compare with sitting your star quarterback. But at the end of the day, players could look at both situations and decide that they’re playing for an arrogant head coach.

So according to Shanahan, McNabb's either stupid or fat. Nice move, Mr. Motivator.

I'll have to agree with you on that. McNabb never was a good two minute QB. The thing that sticks in my mind the most about McNabb is when he got all upset in the SB and puked all over the field. Shanahan made the correct decision although Grossman isn't anything to rave about.

McNabb will persevere. This rediculous episode from Shanahan will actually motivate the team. But they still need an O-line so they will not be much better.

Yes & those quarterbacks (all 95%) sucked too. stope building McNabb's status by comparing him to the dredge in league history. If 1000 quarterbacks have started in he 80 year history that means he isn't in the tope 50 of all time. He is better then 90% all time?
Which puts him somewhere around the top 100, so what? You think they're have been 100 great qbs in league history, let me help they're haven't been. Maybe 20 great ones, another  25 really good ones, another dozen good qbs.

The problem with the Redskins' players is, like the Cowboys' players, they have been babied, Shanahan won't baby them. Some won't like it; some will rededicate themselves and be better. As for McNabb...there was a reason Andy Reid let him go...din't even attempt to get a new contract done. And that is: McNabb is mediocre at this point in his career. He no longer scares anyone with his legs and he makes some bad decisions throwing the ball...kind of like Favre. But, unlike Favre, he can't make the big play with his arm. He is no longer good enough to cater to.

Shanahan will sacrifice anyone and even destroy an entire franchise just to get his way.

Randy Moss sure worked his ass off to try and claim the title.
