Don't think that all this "election business" can keep us from talking about sports, people (but, hey, seriously, vote or die). Thanks to Jon Runyan, the former Philadelphia Eagles offensive lineman, we can have our cake and eat it too.

You see, Runyan won a spot in the House of Representatives, as John Adler, Runyan's opposition for the New Jersey seat, called the former NFL'er before 10 PM EST to concede victory.

CBSSports.com spoke to someone at Runyan's headquarters to confirm the news, and the the Governor of New Jersey is introducing Runyan now.

The lesson as always? If you're a famous and popular athlete, you get to do fun stuff even when you're done playing sports. Although, as Heath Shuler proved, you don't even have to be popular to pull it off.

Somebody needs a civics lesson.  He was elected the the US House of Representatives, representing New Jersey.  There is no "Federal Congress".  And do you really consider calling people idiots when you obviously know less than the "idiots" civil and pleasant?

Thank the good Folks in Dist 3 that voted out Adler. It should have happened the last time he ran. GL Runyan you can't do any worse then what Adler did over his run in that seat.

I said from the beginning, the Dems shouldn't have backed Adler in this one. They should've brought in Michael Strahan to run against him. Runyan could never stop Strahan. Lol.

Brinson and his Facts and Rumors cronies are quickly becoming the worst source of information on this site. Speaking without factual basis or research, typical of tabloid reporting, which is all these losers are. Runyan, who I hated as a player, has been active in politics since he was drafted and considered retiring years ago to become more involved. His being "famous and popular" has nothing to do with his political status. He was an offensive lineman, not a star skill player that was a household name. These idiots couldn't even include his political affiliation. These guys are the reason no one values journalism anymore. Anyone can write anything and disseminate it to millions because they have access to the internet. I am all for free and unrestricted access to information, but the tidal wave of shitty reporting, celebrity worship, and rise in power of gossip columns and idiot culture is killing intelligent thought in america.

"I am holding judgement on Jon and I hope he does his people well, but one thing I can say....just another millionaire in Congress..."
Hopefully a millionaire who can't be bought by special interests and will represent the people.  We'll see.

At least he's putting that fine U. of Michigan education to work.  Right now their football program needs all the positive news it can get . . .
