Cris Carter explains Randy Moss' problem

Remember what a great mentor Cris Carter was for Randy Moss when Moss first entered the NFL? Carter was a talented receiver who had developed genuine sagacity after nearly flushing away his career with substance abuse and attitude problems. He was credible and straight-talking.

So who better to assess what’s going on with Moss these days than Carter? Now an ESPN analyst, Carter talked about his former teammate on Mike and Mike in the Morning Thursday.

“Randy’s problem is that Randy does not have a great deal of respect for male authority," Carter said. "If you’re wishy-washy, if you’re not a man’s man, if you don’t shoot it to him straight, Randy Moss is going to give you problems. He sure enough is going to give you problems."

Carter has been critical of Moss lately, saying a 33-year-old should “have graduated from [misbehavior]”. But few people in football probably understand the enigmatic receiver as well as Carter.

Moss never had another mentor once Carter left. Of course, Carter left after Moss’ fourth season; a player isn’t supposed to need a mentor at that point.

Cris Carter explains Randy Moss' problem

For some when you're older you truly become Wiser. Carter has not reach that Stage yet, Moss has. You have to talk with Moss straight up, being Real and Truthful. He is not going to Deal with Any BS! He is Older and almost Ready for Retirement. Childress No different then most Older Males like to play Games if they're still on the job. Moss is like me, but I'm retired and 15yrs older than him. Play those BS games with your kids, don't step to a Grown A Man with all that nonsense.

Cris Carter explains Randy Moss' problem

Let me sum this up for you. Moss is self absorbed dick playing a team sport. Problems are inevitable. End of story.

Cris Carter explains Randy Moss' problem

How was Carter a bad mentor?  Moss had his most productive time in Minnesota along side Carter.
And Carter is now a part of the media so there is no laying off of Moss.  Moss is a grown man I'm sure he can handle it.

whodat?  Not a mentor?  You are a true idiot. Carter also is the second greatest WR ever. Moss is just a big baby who will never grow up. Randy's problem is for sure Randy.

Cris Carter explains Randy Moss' problem

Cris Carter was a terrible mentor for Moss in the end. Once it was clear that Moss was the #1 guy and the team nolonger relied on Carter to win them games Carter became a problem. He micromanaged Moss, and was nothing but critical about the rest of the organization. He finally retired, then went to play for Miami. We all love CC up here still, but he was just a Moss of an earlier era.

Carter, why don't you lay off Moss. You're not his mom; you're not his dad; you're not even his coach. And he isn't you.
