After a two-day vacation to recover from the nightmare that was Randy Moss moving through waivers, what's more exciting than a Friday afternoon report that Zygi Wilf, who's been in Minnesota just hanging out for a few days, was so upset at Brad Childress for circumventing his authority and dumping Moss that the Vikings owner nearly fired his coach and kept his star wideout?

The answer to that rhetorical question is "nothing," so let's break down the noise ESPN's Ed Werder is making -- according to a team source, Wilf was so "irate" that he nearly canned Chilly and retained Moss. This, presumably, is why Moss wasn't actually released on Monday.

Additionally, Werder reports that a Vikings player informed him of individual meetings Wilf held with the players in order to determine "how much support remained for Childress among veteran players."

This is obviously a bombshell, but it's not entirely mind-blowing considering just how things went down with Moss' release.

Childress recently got an extension that doesn't have a buyout clause, so Wilf would probably prefer to avoid throwing a ton of money down the drain by firing him.

That being said, anyone who thinks Chilly's pants aren't a little warm right now is just flat-out delusional.

Let's see...Keep a coach who blows every week and get rid of a player you signed to take you to the promised land.  Every week, and I mean every week, this guy makes decisions that are baseless in reason, ignorant and plain stupid.  Every week he makes a decision that looks as though he is watching a different game.  last week, goes for it on fourth down at the 1 in a scoreless tie and the defense is doing great.  The week previous, needs two mathematically to have a chance after a TD, everyone in the building knows he needs to go for two, they don't get the play in and can't decide if he should go or kick an extra point, he finally gets the kicker out and has to call a timeout and then goes for two.  A wasted timeout in a game you are behind and need all your timeouts.  Fire this guy now.

Why in the hell they signed him to a 20m extension is beyond me....He sucked as a coach before Farve and had a great yr with him...Looks like they get what they deserve for signing the douche-bag coach because a QB had a great yr..  Enjoy losing all that money when you ditch Chilly..

You Favre haters make me matter what the issue, it has to be Favre's fault. Moss and Childress can't get along,
Favre must be to blame, sun didn't shine today, blame Favre. Do you people really know how ignorant you sound??

I love it!  Moss is gone form New England!  Pats are 6 and 1.  Childress ran his mouth leading up to the game bringing up spygate in a passive aggressive way, like weak people do. Bill B just keeps it professional and has the last laugh.  No Randy and a 3rd round pick.  Wilf should've fired Childress but having said that he shouldn't have been in this situation.  They should've moved on from Favre after last year.

I think Thomas Jones did not have a lot of nice things to say about Favre.  In fact, I thought there was a report that he used to have his own locker area away from other players.  Similar to Barry Bonds.

Report: Wilf nearly fired Childress, kept Moss

This caps one of the most surreal weeks I can remember in a long time.  It started with Shanahan's benching of McNabb and the change in excuses for it as Sunday turned to Monday.  But that story got completely lost in the Randy Moss "press conference" which rolled into Monday's announcement that Childress had decided that Moss was done with Minnesota, oh but the real move wasn't taking place until Tuesday.  Now we find out that Wilf was involved in this thing. So which situation is now the most stable, Childress at Minnesota, McNabb at Washington, or Wade Phillips at Dallas, or even Moss at his new team, Tennessee?

Chilly better be lucky he signed that extension for 20m or else his butt would have been fired.  20m with no buyout clause compared to 3m and a 3rd round draft pick were the options involved.  Now if the owner is mad enough to think of firing you and losing 20m verses 3m and a 3rd round draft pick you might as well pack your bags.  The Chillywagon death ride is coming to an end.  Leslie Frazier is very capable of leading this team and is a better fit.  Chilly days are numbered, he is done after this season and Frazier will be the headcoach next year.  Frazier is watching Chilly so he knows what not to do, like fly down and beg players to come and play, picking players up at the airport, making stupid move without going through the owner, you know the thing that get you fired!Cool

Blueyedcharlie... you have the spelling, vocabulary, and grammar of a f'ing third grader.  Stick to picture books and leave the sports articles for the big boys.  Did you really say "Duh?"  First off, Favre has always been a great teammate.  You will never hear any of his teammates talk bad of him.  Indecisive.. yes.  The unison that you so retardely speak of in case you didn't notice last year with less work with his WR's he had one of the best years of his career.  After 20 years of taking snaps and being 40 it is more important for him to save himself for the regular season and not take worthless hits in the preseason.  You should not be posting especially in bold and all caps as it would be a good idea not to draw attention!
