Stafford on playing at Bills: 'I don't think so'

Matthew Stafford's return to the Lions after an opening-day injury lasted two pretty good games (452 yards, six touchdowns, one interception in two games against the Redskins and the Jets), but it appears as if he'll miss at least one more week, as he doesn't expect to play against the Bills in Week 10.

That's what he told WJR Radio in Detroit on Monday anyway.

"I don't think so," Stafford replied when asked if he'd play.

Stafford's inability to stay healthy has to be a concern for a franchise that views him as the future at quarterback -- he's flashed some pretty exceptional skill ... when he's been on the field.

The key is that final clause, because all the upside and talent and determination and pedigree in the world (and Stafford has all those) don't matter if health isn't there too.

I believe that's 4 now, right? 1 knee injury, and 3 shoulder injuries. How does Detroit address this? I'm not sure. When does Shaun Hill come back? He's been a pleasant surprise for the Lions this season.

Stafford on playing at Bills: 'I don't think so'

Has anyone noticed how Stafford always tucks his shoulder when he falls? Instead of him just falling holding the football with two hands while going down, he puts out his left hand holding the ball with his right hand, he then tucks his right shoulder and then falls on it.
I really believe that is why he is always injuring his shoulder.
Just something i noticed.

I don't agree with sitting him for the rest of the season, but to say that he'll be like a rookie in his third season and essentially no good is wrong.  If I remember correctly, Aaron Rodgers sat for three seasons; that seemed to work out pretty well.  Same for Carson Palmer.
Whoever is losing faith in Jim Schwartz is clearly out of his/her mind.  Schwartz and his Lions have shown more improvement and promise in the past 1 1/2 seasons than the ENTIRE franchise in the past 2 decades, aside from Barry Sanders.  He is a defensive-minded coach, and they have already improved by leaps and bounds.  Do you not realize what Schwartz inherited?  Had Stafford stayed healthy this past week, and Calvin Johnson not been screwed out of a td in week one, that very well could be two more wins on their record, giving them a 4-4 record and second in the NFC North.
People, relax and quit being so ignorant and impatient.

I am not ready to proclaim this guy injury prone yet, but he is certainly headed down that path. Its his second year so I say it's still hard to judge, but what's bad is that he's a QB and he is getting all of these injuries. It's not as if he's a RB or scrambling QB, he just gets hit and gets injured. Dang... I think I may and have just talked myself out of my own denial.

Coach Schwartz doesn't believe that a person can be "injury prone." He claims certain people just get hit differently and awkwardly. I couldn't disagree more. Stafford is made of glass. Add the terrible clock management and play calling at the end of the jets debacle and I'm slowly losing faith in our inexperienced head coach. Not to mention the blunder before halftime during the vikings game. Maybe the pressure gets the best of him?
