Ray Rice says he received no 'special treatment'

Monday night, Ray Rice tweeted that he got pulled for his window tinting and that he gave the cop and autograph and then the cop let him off with just a warning.

As you can imagine, this went over really, really well with everyone.

So Rice deleted the tweet and backtracked on Tuesday (you can see his full comments in video form, via the Baltimore Sun, below).

"I don’t want to make it seem like I was getting any [special] treatment by an officer,” Rice said. “He was doing his job."

Rice claims he was going to get the new "Call of Duty" video game (Come on, Ray, you don't get those for free?!?! I kid, I kid.) and he got pulled for his windows being too tinted and the cop eventually let him off with a warning.

Then, Rice says he "took it upon myself to offer him an autograph for his son" who's a big Rice fan, apparently. Rice then mentioned this on Twitter, which was an obvious mistake, and the uproar began.

Is it a big deal? No. If Rice had been drinking and driving, or speeding, or steering his car with his feet while hanging out of a sunroof, then there's definitely a case for him abusing the system. But the tint on his car was too dark -- plenty of people have been pulled for worse and received a warning (myself included).

And the result might not have been the same if he wasn't Ray Rice, but you know what? That's part of the territory that comes with being a celebrity. If Ray Rice's worst offense as a professional athlete is giving someone an autograph after they didn't ticket him for a relatively harmless law (that may or may not have been primarily created around the idea of making it easier to pull people over), then we're probably all going to be better off for his fame.
