Jamaal Charles has some sort of mystery injury

On the heels of Jamaal Charles' 177-yard rushing effort against the Bills two weeks ago, his performance (53 yards on 10 carries) against the Raiders was pretty disappointing. But, hey, it's the Raiders, whatcha gonna do, right?

Or maybe it wasn't Oakland's defensive play, and instead it's the old mystery injury that keeps fantasy owners awake at night.

According to our Chiefs Rapid Reporter Bob Gretz, Todd Haley admitted that Charles had to leave the game against Oakland because of "physical problems he would not describe."

As if, you know, people needed another reason to love Todd Haley.

If Charles was coming in and out because of the injury, it seems like it's something that's not too major (good news), but might also be something that's nagging (terrible news).

Expect Haley to get continually grilled for the rest of the week about the nature of Charles' injury -- at some point he'll have to attach some sort of label to it, unless he thinks he can sneak "Questionable: Body" by the NFL.

The good news for Kansas City is that even though they could theoretically lose their home run hitter for a game, they face Denver next, and Thomas Jones should be able to do plenty of damage against their defense.

Jamaal Charles has some sort of mystery injury

From NFL.com
Q&A with HaleyQ: You don’t talk about injuries at all, if ever. Why did you go into what was hampering RB and his injury situation earlier this week?

HALEY: “I don’t know that I did, did I?”

Q: You said that he had to come out of the game, or it was his choice to go to the sideline and kind of spoke to some injuries that he was dealing with in that game…

HALEY: “I don’t know that I was going through specific injuries. We have handfuls of guys that come in and out of the game that have to at times. When I’m not talking about injuries, that’s for injury reports and those things and specifics – I’m talking about falling on the ball and you get shaken up. Those things are happening throughout the game but they will happen to running backs, probably at a little higher level just because they’re touching the ball a bunch of the time. I don’t think I have an answer for you other than just maybe trying to answer whatever question I was asked.”

So my question is what' going on are we missing something here?

Jamaal Charles has some sort of mystery injury

I agree with you... I picked up Charles mid-season last year & he was great! I couldn't understand why the Chiefs went after Jones with having Charles. I was going to draft Charles as my #1 last year & I hate to say this but I'm glad someone else draftwd him agian of me! With that said, I truly believe Charles will be a top 5 fantasy back in 2011, if there is a season. I wouldn't target him in the draft as a top 5 but definitely 2nd round...

Jamaal Charles has some sort of mystery injury

Charles is a real talent.  I have tracked him for the past couple of years and feel he could be in the same category as Chris Johnson if given the opportunity.  It's difficult for the average fan (like me) to clearly understand why he does not get more opportunity on a consistent basis when the guy averages 5+ yards a carry and has big play potential every time he touches the ball.  The guy was lights out the second half of last season, racking up both huge yards and TD's.  That said, there must be some sort of an issue with him, be it endurance, or something else that limits his role.  I simply can't believe that Haley thinks that Jones is a better back, or a better fit for the offense, so there must be something about him that the average fan is unaware of.  Would love to know what it is so I can decide whether to try and draft him again next year on my fantasy team.  I really thought this was his year to bust out with season long monster numbers - but that has not been the case - at least not on a consistent basis.  Here's to a huge second half Jamaal...

Jamaal Charles has some sort of mystery injury

I was watching this game and wondering why in the world were they not putting Charles in. I'm a huge Charles fan and have kept a great eye on him this year and am baffled why in the world Jones still gets in there more. People say to keep him fresh down the road but this was a huge rivalry game so would you want to pound them with your best player? Just stupid, comepletly stupid

Jamaal Charles has some sort of mystery injury

I noticed something was not right with Charles towards the end of the game. He got up slowly and limped a bit after each carry. Finally he trotted off to the sideline. I wouldnt be surprised if something further develops about the injury, which if it is there, will be hard to hide.
Losing him for any amount of time would be critical.
