Jets reach out to child accosted by Browns fan

A Cleveland-area father and son who are Jets fans attended Week 10's Browns/Jets game, and the end result for them wasn't as fun as for their favorite team -- they were accosted by an angry Browns fan who tackled the eight-year-old.

“As he was walking, holding my son’s hand, a guy from behind tackled him. A drunken Browns fan tackled him and pulled him out of his dad’s hand. He was on the ground crying,” the mother/wife, who reported the incident to WEWS News in Cleveland, said.

She also told the news station that outside the stadium, Browns fans called them "a bad word" and were "throwing food at them."

The Browns are looking into the incident and VP of media relations Neal Gulkis called the incident "unfortunate and disappointing."

And the Jets are helping too -- they reached out the family and offered to fly them to New York and let them watch a Jets game in one of the team's suites, according to Matt Higgins, executive VP of business operations for the Jets.

According to, however, the family declined their offer, saying they are "done with the story" and just prefer that the Browns work to make the parking lot safer.

This is a classic case of "a few bad apples" (or maybe "brown apples"?), but that's still no excuse for a fan -- a grown adult, mind you -- tackling a child in a parking lot because his team lost a game of sport.

Sure, Clevelanders have a lot to be depressed about when it comes to sports, but if the fans are this bitter and angry, maybe they don't deserve a championship any time soon anyway.

What a freaking disgrace... what kind of inbred moronic menace tackles an 8 year old kid ?? .... if that were my child you can bet that "gentleman" would not have walked away breathing.

If you cannot do anything about your pro sports teams, at least do something about the IQ of your fans.

"Who takes their kid to an NFL game? I'm sorry, I would never take my 7 year old to a football game"

So Thirtysomething, you're trying to tell me that it was the Dad'a fault that some idiot attacked his kid??

Jets?  I am a Cowboys fan and we rule the NFL!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How do you rule the NFL with a 2-7 record?? In the 90s the Cowboys ruled, but right now, that team is very far away from ruling. Heck, even the Browns have a better shot right now to ruling the NFL than Dallas. Both teams are not very good, but you can't be bragging about the garbage Cowgirls.

Too many things that are fishy.
1. There is always a significant police presence in Muni lot. Why did nobody else see it and report it to the police?
2. Why wasn't the aftermath captured with a cell phone video and placed on youtube?
3. Why didn't other Cleveland fans kick the crap out of anyone who would tackle a kid?
4. Why wasn't it reported to police by the concerned mother or by the father that witnessed the event after the fact?
5. Why won't the mother take the free vacation the Jets are offering her unless she is already starting to feel guilty about the story she fabricated?
6. If he was 8 years old and tackled by a grown man, how did he only get a scrape and bruise on his ankle?

Too many inconsistencies. I DON'T BELIEVE THIS STORY FOR A SECOND. Way to put an unsubstantiated claim on your site as a fact. I will laugh at the retraction when this turns all "Bubble Boy" on them. Of course we don't even know who the accuser is . . .

Exactly Doom, All these spoon fed idiots who believe everything that they read without any critical thinking whatsoever would rather just bash Cleveland Fans. And who can blame them really? This is the culture we live in now. hope change socialism hope change socialism.
And if this stupid story was true, then the biggest crime was committed by the pu$$y father for just walking back to the car and doing nothing about it.

You're right, there's alot of things that your QB ISN'T, and being a WINNER is near the top of the list....

I think I'd be bitter too if all my biggest rival did was win Super Bowls, and the only time my team made the news was for the ridiculous antics of their drunken fans...

My QB paid his debt to the league and isn't the only member of the NFL to have legal issues in their spare time.  I guess you forgot about this one already e'h?  Apr 2, 2009
... Cleveland Browns wide receiver Donte Stallworth will be charged with DUI manslaughter after a Miami car crash that killed a pedestrian.

My so called "serial rapist QB" was
NEVER charged with any crime...

Actually Colt McCoy is the winningest college football quarterback of all time. So I think that pretty much certifies him as a winner. He is 2-2 in the NFL in his rookie year and has never been accused of rape even once, let alone twice.
And Stallworth plays for the Ravens now dumbass. The Browns terminated his contract as soon as his suspension was over.
Maybe the hypocrite Rooney's can take a lesson.
And what karma now that the Steelers are getting concussions after the dirty Harrison "likes to hurt people."
Stay Stupid Steeler Fan!
