How desperate are the New York Giants for wide receiver help after injuries to Hakeem Nicks (compartment syndrome) and Steve Smith (torn pectoral muscle) submarined one of the best WR corps in the NFL?

Well, they've reportedly signed Michael Clayton and that should tell you all you need to know, since Clayton was cut by the Buccaneers and has spent the past few weeks kicking it in the UFL. Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that the Giants inked Clayton to a one-year deal on Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk first reported that the Giants were bringing in Clayton for a workout.

There's some bizarre stuff going on with the timing of this, though, as Clayton (or any UFL'er for that matter, as Florio notes) isn't technically supposed to workout for any NFL team until after the UFL championship game on Friday.

However, Ralph Vacchiano of the New York Daily News reported earlier that, according to multiple sources, the Clayton workout was taking place Tuesday and that "a signing later today is a possibility." So Schefter's report makes total sense.

Once the reported news is finalized, if the Giants won't owe the oft-contested $150,000 UFL transfer fee because Clayton hasn't been on a UFL roster for four weeks.

Of course, that he was on a UFL roster at all, and the Giants needed him, is pretty indicative of what kind of injury troubles they're dealing with this year.

Do you have an editor?  Seriously, what does that sentence even say?  I don't think you need the word "if" after the comma.  Or if you do use the word "if", you can't use the word "because" without something like "it is" before the word "because."

Honestly, this isn't some poster I am going after for their grammar.  You write the articles, then an editor is supposed to read and EDIT the article, and then the article is published.  How many sets of eyes see the article (and how many times each) before it is posted?  How does an entire sentence like that, which makes pretty much no sense, get posted?

As a buc fan this guy was really good his first year then fell off years after that and had plenty of time to get back up to shape. Whatever he had before he lost it.

Worse than the desparation shown by the Giants is the desparation shown by CBS Sports letting this clown write columns for them! Punctuation is awful, the facts aren't straight, and the whole situation was explained very poorly. If at all. I would suggest a couple of English courses at the local community college. This type of sub-par writing is typical for Brinson.

Maybe this will finally wake Michael Clayton up.  He was great at LSU and then in his first year in Tampa, but he basically became a blocking WR, if there is such a thing.  He has never had great speed, but he used to run great routes and have very good hands.  Maybe he has been humbled now and will do the work required to make back.  It does seem odd that he fell off the map like he has, and I can only attribute that to a lack of effort, as he has enough talent.  He has had some injuries, but he has had more than enough time for those to heal.

I doubt this guy will do much of anything, I can't believe there was no one better available. Manningham will have to really step up for the Gmen to have much of an offensive attack. They also need to get back to the running game and make use of both of their talented running backs.
