Clinton PortisRedskins career may be over. According to multiple media outlets, the nine-year veteran running back was placed on Injured Reserve Wednesday. Portis re-aggravated his groin injury this past Sunday after missing the previous five games.

This news comes as a mild surprise only because some suspected Portis would play in Week 12 after an MRI earlier in the week reportedly revealed no new damage to the groin. But the fact that Washington would make this move despite Ryan Torain being less than 100 percent suggests Portis’ health is worse than outsiders figure.

Portis is an aging, injury-prone runner who has taken some 2,500 hits in his career. He’s due over $8 million in 2011. It’s possible he could remain in Washington only because he is close to Dan Snyder. But the Redskins learned this year with Willie Parker and Larry Johnson that once a runner hits a wall, there’s no salvaging his career.

UPDATE 5:20 p.m. ET: Portis' injury is actually a torn lower abdominal muscle, just above the groin he tore in Week 4. Dr. James Andrews told Portis he'd need surgery. It's very possible that the groin injury and abdominal injury are related. Portis admitted to not being 100 percent when he took the field against the Titans in Week 11. He played because, with the Redskins backfield being short-handed, he felt he owed it to the team.

for the record: LT has 692yds at week 10. after the game tonight, im sure he will surpass the 700yd marker. he has done this averaging 15-16 carries a game at 4.5ypc while sharing the load with shonn greene. ur entitled to ur opinion so u have a right to feel that LT is done. however, they keep stats for a reason and they are accessable even to you.

O-Line...  A good O-line makes everyone good enough.    Portis left Dever where they had a good group of guys up front that worked well together.  When he came to Washington, the Skins O-line was starting to show its age.  The battles are one in the trenches.  Being a Skins fan I can't count how many times Portis picked up a key block to keep a play alive.  Portis gave this team everything.  Bad mouthing Portis, just doesn't make since.  Unless your a Dallas Fan and if you are ask Romo how important it is to pick up blitz's.

For the last several years, he was the only thing a defense had to worry about.

Happy Thanksgiving to all!

LT, done. Really. Isnt't he secong in receptions with the Jets. Already has over 1000(690/310) total yards. Ya, washed up. Isn't he sharing carries with Greene. Aren't the Jets second in team rushing? Good one, do some research. Your comparing Portis to LT. Get your head out of your A-s-s.
