Samuel fined $40K, calls Deion 'a hater'

Today was a pretty good day to be around Asante Samuel; at least if you're a member of the media anyway -- Samuel kicked the day off by calling Deion Sanders "a hater."

Then he proceeded to get tattooed with a $40,000 fine for his helmet-to-helmet hit on Giants wideout Derek Hagan Sunday night.

Samuel's hit was notable because after doing exactly what the NFL wants him not to do (leading with his head), he proceeded to do exactly why the NFL hates leading with the head (celebrating) and seemed all but guaranteed to get fined.

According to Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer, Samuel was originally fined $50,000, but Eagles coach Andy Reid was able to (somehow) convince the league to lower the fine by $10,000.

Eagles offensive lineman Todd Herremans was also fined $5,000 for penalties he received after blocking attempts on Chris Canty, who believed that Herremans was going at his knees.

As for the Deion thing, well, he recently called Samuel "the best off corner in the game" which actually seems fairly complimentary, unless it's backhanded. Samuel tweeted that Deion is "the biggest hater in the world" and that "he ain't no [Florida] boy he is a fake."

Unfortunately for Asante, Deion now gets to spend some time on the NFL Network discussing the Eagles cornerback's most recent fine, and that means plenty of time to "analyze" his off-field actions too.

Samuel fined $40K, calls Deion 'a hater'

In the words of a true NFL legend and honest to God 2-way player, Chuck Bednarik, Chuck said his wife could tackle better than Deion could.  Pee-on Deion was nothing more than a self-grandizing, self-promoting tool that could not tackle a paper sack to save his life.  Good thing def backs never have to tackle on a football field - way over-rated.  Play LB and C for 60 minutes, then go to your 'real' job during the week before you call out someone else, D-bag Sanders.  Oh, and is it hating still if it's true?

Sanders, was a good to great corner, one of the best of all time he could never be for a few reasons.  But all of his flaws are pretty much all the same flaws that have plagued Samuels (and Im a eagles fan so its hard to admit lol). He was horrible (and thats a understatement) in run coverage.  Teams intentionally ran the ball right at him on the edge because he was notorious for avoiding contact at all cost.  A lot of you are right to say he had some of the best instincts in the game, but he was a gambler and for every amazing int replay there are two plays of big plays on blown coverages because he jumped a route on a double move.  Once the ball was caught this is the only section I will give samuels over sanders.  While samuels very rarely will deliver the big hit, he doesnt intentionally shy away from contact.  Also if you look at the rules changes since sanders played as a pose to now when samuels plays its ridiculous.  You could manhandle a reciever almost all the way down the field as long as the ball wasnt in the air back then.  If you are a milisecond early or appear to be you can count on a flag now.  Or if your helmet so much as grazes another helmet now count on 15 yards. If a receiver now doesnt have a clear field to see, catch, take three steps, and make a "football move" you can do nothing as a defender now.  As for Sanders intelligence I will not question it, but i will question who he continually takes up for and associates himself with.  Players like TO, Pac Man Jones, etc.  You can easily judge a man by the company he keeps, and he has shown enough for me to get a feel of what kind of guy he is.

Deion could run, and that he did. He is the only punt/kick off returner I have EVER seen that ran away from a hit by a kicker. He is the BIGGEST SISSY that ever played in the NFL. He is by NO means the best d-back. He was good but he was a chickenshit. And now that he is on t.v. I have no idea why anyone with even half a brain would listen to anything he has to say. He is an IDIOT. I can honestly say I have NEVER in my life heard anyone as stupid as him and get paid for his opinion. I have listened to him the first time he was on t.v. years ago because I always thought he was entertaining, but ,the first time I heard him open his mouth was the last. He is an IDIOT. I try to give everyone a chance but he is BEYOND DUMB> he is boxer dumb, and that is REAL dumb.STUPID as the day is long, a regular box of rocks.

Samuel fined $40K, calls Deion 'a hater'

You obviously were a Deion hater yourself, probably a Giants fan, who didn't like the guy's publicity.

Deion Sanders completely shut down the entire side of the field he covered in the secondary. He was the best Zone coverage corner that ever lived, and probably the best corner ever (though I thought he was missing the toughness and tackling abilities that other guys excelled at).

He was one of the greatest punt returners in history and his is a Hall-of-Famer, something that you absolutely DO NOT EARN in a popularity contest. The Hall-of-Fame chooses those that excelled at their position and no cornerback deserved enshinement more that Deion. Period.

Glad I could help you out.

Asante is a decent corner......Dion was one of the all time greats......now as for the nfl network....don't watch him because he shouldn't be there.   But as for his career he was unmatched when he played.
like him, love him, hate him  but he was a hell of a player....couldn't hit but you didn't dare throw to his side often....

Asante, your my man, but you have to hit em in the numbers, period. you can hit em both hard and clean by hittin em in the mid section. there is no reason to hit a man in the shoulder pads or above after he recieves the pass, except to injure.
