Late on Monday night, amid an embarrassing loss to San Francisco, Derek Anderson got caught laughing with lineman Deuce Lutui. In his postgame press conference, Kent Somers of the Arizona Republic asked him why he was laughing (and Somers actually tweeted about asking him before the presser). Anderson's response was straight out of a Coors Light commercial and we've got video.

Here's the transcription for those that are curious:
"It wasn't funny. I wasn't laughing about anything ... Okay, that's fine. That's fine. That's fine. That's fine. That's fine. I'm not laughing about it -- you think this is funny, I take this f----- serious. Real serious. I put my heart and soul into this s--- every single week. I'm just telling you what I do right now what I do every single week! Every single week I put my freaking heart and soul into this! I study my a-- off! I don't go out there and laugh! It's not funny. Nothing's funny to me. I don't want to go out there and get embarrassed in front of everybody. I'm telling you right now -- Deuce and I were talking!"
Somers then tried to ask another question and Anderson just yelled "I'm done!" and stormed away from the podium.

I disagree with the idea that Leinart was chosen to be the QB of the future and didn't get enough time to develop. Correct, D Anderson is certainly not the answer, but neither was Leinart. He had ample opportunity to display ability and never once came close to proving to be an NFL level talent. The cards should call it a year and hope they draft their new QB of the future in next years draft.

Anyone STILL thinks the Cardinals are better off with Derek Anderson rather than Matt Leinart?  LMAO.

This isn't really a big deal.  So what if he laughed, in some crap situations all you can do is laugh it off.  He wasn't over on the sidelines laughing like crazy, he had a chuckle.  He over reacted a bit in the interview, but that just shows he was frustrated.  Who cares if he chucked a little.  In strssful times I always crack a joke, that doesn't mean I don't appreciate the gravity of the situation...just meant to lighten the mood in a crap situation...

To answer your question, galilee, nothing. Leinart was drafted to be their qb of the future.I just don't think they gave him a reasonable amount of time to do the job.Sure, he made mistakes like any young qb would do.It's funny how thse things work out.Tom Brady was a 7th round draft pick who would have been on the bench for years until Bledsoe got hurt. The rest is history.Sometimes in the NFL, just like in real life,it's a matter of being in the right the place at the right time.

Maybe Derek Anderson should hang em up! He defintely isn't a NFL caliber quarterback anymore and the way he played last night my 11 year old son could run a team better!

Hang em up Derek!

Who cares if Derek Anderson was laughing.  They lost!   They lost badly... So what...If he was pissed off would that make anyone feel better about the loss.  Guys get angry and act out...people blog about it...A guy laughs about something when his team is lossing..people blog about it.  This is a non event, non story, waste of time discussion. : )

This is just yet another demonstration of how absolutely pointless so-called "sports journalism" is.  It consists almost entirely of this kind of b.s., where snarky reporters try to get a rise out of the athletes they cover, then hype it and effectively create a story where there was none.

The simple explanation for Derek Anderson's unfortunate moment on camera is of course what several others have posted here -- life goes on even during a loss, and to imagine/insist that the QB of the losing team can't so much as crack a smile the whole night is ridiculous.  It doesn't mean he isn't embarrassed, he doesn't take his job seriously, he doesn't want to win.  None of that.

While it would have been nice for Derek Anderson to say as much, the fact is that the reporter certainly was already aware of this, and just didn't care -- wouldn't have accepted it, would have kept poking and prodding and questioning.  Anderson knew where this was going, and reacted angrily and emotionally -- which frankly should be enough to demonstrate that he DOES in fact care, want to win, etc.

Now, none of this is to say that Derek Anderson is a great or even a good QB.  He isn't.  But this constant b.s. about players not having enough heart/desire to win, just because they are human -- it's an utter crock.

I thought it was odd when during the game, Jon Gruden of all people said he was disappointed to see DA laughing. The same Jon Gruden who has never criticized the league or any of their players in any broadcast that I've ever heard. Gruden of all people should know what goes on on the sidelines. He has no idea what DA was chuckling at. It may have been a little joke to get DA focused or to quit feeling sorry for himself.

I'm a Browns fan so obviously I have no love for DA. He's an absolutely horrible QB, yet I don't blame him for this incident at all.
