Anderson to remain starter in Arizona

Derek Anderson had a little bit to say following Arizona's Monday night loss after being asked why he was smiling in the middle of a blowout.

On Tuesday, though, coach Ken Wisenhunt stuck for both he and Deuce Lutui, at whom Anderson was smiling.

"Those guys have worked hard, they want to win," Wisenhunt said, via the Arizona Republic. "I'm not going to read too much into a couple of seconds of what you see on video. I'm going to base it on what I know about those guys and their demeanor and their approach."

That's a pretty fair assessment -- even if Anderson did FLIP OUT and scream at Kent Somers, it's not like smiling on the football field, even amid a nasty public beatdown, is worth cutting someone and moving on, provided they're at least trying.

Anyway, some good news: Anderson's shoddy performance Monday (15/35, 196 yards, no TDs, one pick) won't cost him his job according to Coach Ken Wisenhunt on Tuesday.

Wisenhunt indicated that Anderson gives the Cardinals the "best chance to win" and while that's debatable given his level of play, it's at least excusable because the other options involve throwing either John Skelton or Max Hall under the bus.

The Cardinals are probably out of contention (though not technically) and risking the development of those guys when Anderson's available just seems like a silly proposition. So in good news -- five more weeks of really awkward postgame interviews!

Well, I guess it proves one of the age old addages wrong. You can't just plug in any quarterback into a successful system and get the same results. So, which rookie coming out of next year's draft will be taking over the huddle for the Cardinals?

Kent Somers was way out of line.  "What were you laughing about?"  Cameras are on the QB's during Monday Night Football for three straight hours.  "What was on your mind when you twitched your nose with 2:34 left in the second quarter?"  Somers wanted to embarrass Derek Anderson.  There is little journalistic value to digging into what the lineman might have said to apparently cheer his embattled quarterback for a moment.  Why go out of your way to write a feel bad story?  What do you want Derek to say?  "I was laughing about taking revenue from these great Arizona fans that pay my salary and returning them a pitiful season."  Is that what Kent wanted to hear?  Ridiculous to try and make a federal case out of Anderson cracking a smile for two seconds.

I think it makes you realize how good a quarterback Kurt Warner really was to take this team to the Super Bowl.   If I had a HoF vote, he'd be in on my first ballot.

I have to agree this guy does not have the accuracy and consistency to play QB at the NFL level.
He was an embarassment on Monday night.

Does anyone know when Fitzgerald's contract is up ?

Leinhart? Someone actually wants Leinhart back? That guy is as big a joke as Anderson. He was/is a bust. He was never going to make the grade and, had the Cards kept him, his cost was way too high. While he may be marginally better than Anderson, it's not much. They obviously need a franchise QB...but it's going to be tough to find one...it always is. If they draft someone like Luck, it's a crapshoot...as 1st round QBs have proven over the years. Plus development time. If they trade for someone like Kolb...also a crapshoot but less so. That'll may a big dent in their 2011 draft, but something has to be done. This should make everyone realize what a great QB and leader Kurt Warner actually was. A HOFer.

What's unfortunate about this situation is that the writing is now on the wall for Fitzgerald's departure.  The organization chose to go back to it's cheap ways and now find itself back where it was 5 or 6 years ago.  The got their new stadium, now back to losing!
